    Yay indeed.

Anyone ever listened to Engorged? I have the feeling that FS knows of them. They're a new band, they play death/thrash(not gore metal or grind as you would expect) stuff but leaning more towards DM, I listened to one song and it was awesome, so I downloaded their album. Reminiscent of old Sepultura, Malevolent Creation, and Testament.

    Can't wait for Monday.

I've only listen to them through the "Impaled-Engorged Split" and they aren't too bad It's funny how their lastest album got 0% on MA

Edit: Trying to get my hands on some Sodom (As in the band ) at the minute

I can testify for their live awesomeness. Have you noticed that the Demigod tracks sound even faster live?

Well some MA reviewers are elitist "100% original shit or fuck off" cunts. I've only listened to the self titled so I don't know about their 2nd, but I wouldn't be surprised if the reviewer decided to blow shit out of proportion.

I can finally play Nile's Execration Text! Br00t3l. Not as hard as I thought it would be... but damn this shit is fast! I'll record a video of me playing it once I clean up my speed on this track.

Like the Jackson JS30 series(there are different models like I said including the Kelly, RR-style V, regular V, warrior, and strat shapes). However if you want to get that line of Jacksons I highly suggest buying it on ebay or used at a store, it's not really worth the full new price I think, knock off like $30.

I *would* reccomend some of the Ibanez's with whammy bars, but as a first electric they're not a good idea cuz they're tricky to set up correctly. There's a bunch of other guitars I can reccomend for you, I'll post later on tonight cuz I have to go to work soon. I'm dying to get a whammy-bar equipped guitar to play those Vader/Morbid Angel/Darell Dimebag squeals... I saw a Dimebag Darell instructional video yesterday on how to do those high squeals with the bar and it kicked ass.

$150 for the amp? That's too low, man, at least for a good sounding one. I think you spend a little less on the guitar then. A good amp -a Roland Cube 30 or Cube 15- cost $230 and the other one less, and you won't need extra distortion. The Cube 15 might be all you need, actually I think it's $150 but I'm not sure. I have a Tech 21 Trademark 30, same power as a Cube 30(slightly a bit more), but it has REALLY good sound quality. However it cost me $270 as opposed to $230 like the Roland Cube 30.

Also let me know if you're going to use the amp solely for home practicing or if you have a good chance of finding a drummer/other guitarist you'll probably need something a little more powerful(and evidently: more expensive). Amp brands to avoid: Beringher and Crate(only the lower priced stuff is bad).

And you don't need to buy a distortion pedal. The distortion pedals are only a good idea if you totally hate your amps built in distortion, dist. pedals have usually tacky sound quality. A decent distortion pedal costs $100 new, so I think you would best get an amp that already has built-in decent distortion. I can reccomend a few, again I'll be back later tonight.
What's the quality of a whammy equiped on a mid-priced guitar such as the ones you mentioned? As tmepting as the whammy is, I think I might avoid it if it screws up too much.

Most websites have the Roland Cube 15 at a reasonable price. Since I plan to use it to practice at home, it seems like a good choice. I'm going to the store to get new strings for my guitar the coming few days, So while I'm there, I might as well try out a few of the guitars you mentioned to get an idea of what works for me.

Are you referring to me? If so, you're an idiot.

I'm downloading the Wizard disco right now. It said in the reviews it's awesome power metal, so I'm getting them

Here's the deal with whammy's: don't buy it if they aren't an Original Floyd Rose, Ibanez Edge bridge, or an Original Kahler bridge(Kahlers are better). Lower quality bridges will never stay in tune, especially when you use the whammy bar. Some licensed Floyd Roses and Kahlers can be good, but keep an eye out for those and play the fuck out of a guitar before buying it, make sure bridge can hold a tuning.

So almost definately you wont find a guitar in that price range with a good tremolo bridge. If you simply must have a whammy you can buy a bridge(these are costly), and get it installed(even more costly). But if you're going to spend that much on a modification, you might as well buy a 2nd guitar or a better amp so it's not worth it.

Some really good fixed bridge(this means non-whammy) guitars are: Ibanez RG321 MH, any of the Jackson JS30 series, Epiphone Flying V, Les Paul or Explorer(go for $300 new), and some higher end(anything higher than Bronze) BCR's are a good investment, but buy BCRs used. Try a lot of used guitars if they are lowered to your price range. A scratch or a few won't affect your playing, but could affect a price tag for $100.

Anyone heard Numbers From The Beast - An All Star Salute To Iron Maiden? I'm listening to it right now, and it's sounds like we finally got ourselves a decent compilation free of CoF.
