Hmn, I recently downloaded a few discographies searching for Therion-esque bands. What do you guys think of:

    - Nightwish
    - Leaves' Eyes
    - Epica
    - Haggard
    - After Forever
    - Tristania

    ^^?

Yay... someone actually listened to me. Check out Napalm Death(of course), get their best hits entitled "Noise for Music's Sake!". Also get the Harmony Corruption album and one of the old live records(from like 92 or 93). As close as you can get.

Also check out Repulsion, they only had one album before they split up and some members went on to form Exhumed. Oh yeah... early Exhumed but you already listen to "Gore Metal".

Early Carcass... like pre-Heartwork is early goregrind, which I don't like all that much. I know it's not the kind of grind your looking for but I just thought I'd mention them. I like the punkish/thrashy grind with politically motivated lyrics, for the most part anti-fascist. Napalm Death uber alles.

Vader... um, well they have 2 Terrorizer covers, so you might want to check them out. "Fear of Napalm" and "Storm of Stress" are the songs covered. Vader's demo "Morbid Reich" is kinda like a mix of Terrorizer, Slayer, Possessed, and Sodom.

Oh yeah, Sodom. Pure thrash, but in the same vein as Terrorizer.

Dying Fetus. Period. But not that much like Terrorizer... More like Suffocation's "Effigy of the Forgotten".

    Rotten Sound, awesome modern grindcore.

Holy Diver is awesome though. Anybody seen the music video for it? What a piece of Michael Moore hot-dog infested belly weener. But, it was the aerly 80's, so I guess it's ok that it sucked then. It's pretty funny, though. Download it if you haven't seen it!
    Lol. Hot-dog infested belly wiener...

Slayer is definately classic, but it's extreme metal, I'm talking about the traditional metal bands that usually didn't deal with evil or violent themes. You'll LOVE Manowar, especially if you like Judas Priest, guarrenteed. It's like... their attitude, the power and energy in their music. Surely it's not Nile, but the vibe you get from them is much more intense and epic than any other band I've ever listened to. It's basically metal about... being metal, so damned awesome. I can't reccomend a few albums, because I'd be leaving some songs out, so check out some of these:

    -Hail and Kill(!!!!!!).
    -Army of Immortals.
-Hand of Doom.(not a Sabbath cover)
    -Swords in the Wind.
-Master of the Wind(live version is better).
    -Fighting the World.
    -Holy War.
    -Violence and Bloodshed.
    -Return of the Warlord.
    -The Gods Made Heavy Metal.
    -Metal Warriors.
    -Call to Arms(!!!!).
    -Brothers of Metal.
    -Outlaw(!!!).
    -Thor(The Powerhead) !!!
    -Wheels of Fire.(!)
    -Pleasure Slave.
    -Defender.

See a trend? Lol... yeah, kind of cheesy at times, but it's classic true metal that I'm not embarrassed to listen to in public.

Nightwish has released 3 awesome albums (Wishmaster, Oceanborn, Century Child), but the rest ain't too good. Tarja got kicked out just recently, I guess it's better that way.

I've only heard the Leaves' Eyes-EP, and I'm not very impressed. It sounded like Within Temptation (don't get me started on them), so... yeah.

Epica is actually great, considering the fact I actually hate most band in the "gothic metal bands with female vocalists"-genre.

Haven't heard too much from Haggard or After Forever, but Tristania is great. They come from a city not too far from where I live.

Gnats, you should try out Stream Of Passion and Sirenia, I think you'll dig those.

Gothic metal isn't exactly my taste, but you may find interest in Estatic Fear. Their music is far above than what I've heard from the mentioned bands. Less cheese, more thought out arrangements, and a whole lot better incorporation of symphonic elements. Get their album Sombre Dance if you can find it.

Ram-Zet is playing here with Tristania, Evergrey and Mindgrinder in mid-November, but I can't get in since you have to be 18 years old (they're very strict at that place too, so no way in hell I will get in. Believe me, I tried last year. ).

I won't go as far to get a fake ID just to watch a show, besides, I will be 18 next year and then Jorn Lande and Mercenary will play.

Two underrated, or just not very well known bands (as far as I know anyway)... Cryhavoc and Kalmah. Fuck, Kalmah is too awesome. I cannot get enough of them.

I fvcking love Kalmah, I prefer Kalmah being not well know anyway . Cryhavoc are awesome. The vocalist out of Cryhavoc sounds like Alexi Laiho's voice except he doesn't do the "Yaow Yaow" thing.

    "Yaow yaow yaow!"
Yeah, I prefer them not being well known too

Is Mindgrinder good? I had their album 'Mindtech' in queue for download, but not one song finished... I think they have a Zyklon member, if I remember correctly.

Edit: Hahaha. Yesss! Check this out if you like Nightwish. Or just feel like laughing at something. 50 bucks says you can't watch the whole thing

Yeah, when melodeath bands get overexposed they end up sounding like Soilwork and In Flames. :/

I just got some new strings for my guitar, which are probably the heaviest guage ever made. .70 guage for the low E string... that's close to the 2nd or 3rd strings on a bass(4th being the thickest string). The string is like 1.7777 mm thick, it barely fit through the tuning peg(where you wind the string). I'm tuned reaaaally low for some Nile, Wormed, and Amon Amarth, and the strings still feel tight as hell. br00t3l.
