That was the song Abbath did most of the vocals on, right? That song was ok, though nothing more in my opinion. They coud've cut down on the goddamn orchestra.

Looks like you need to listen to some Anthrax, Sodom and Megadeth's "Rust in Peace". And Sepultura... go grab Arise, Territory, Schizophrenia, and Beneath the Remains. Seriously, they still have a "wow" factor despite being so old. Also check out Rigor Mortis, awesome death/thrash in the vein of... well, early Death. Whiplash is like Destruction and "Kill Em All" Metallica. I love thrash more than ever before, but it's a shame that 90% of metalheads nowadays listen to either black, death, or power/heavy metal exclusively.

Anyone like Blind Guardian's first album "Battalions of Fear"? I love it... it's way different from any of their other material. It's not power metal at all, it's thrash/speed or something, really cool oldschool stuff.

Edit: Abbath doing vocals for Dimmu? I don't remember seeing him in that video, are you sure it was him?

Edit2: Oh I see at M-A that it was indeed Abbath. Damn, I would have never known. Their next album is a re-recording of Stormblast... not one I liked really. The only one I ever liked was Fr All Tid...

lol, I think it was the orchestra that did it for me, I love classical music as well and I haven't heard any classical music in absolutly ages.

Mate, that's not a question to be asked. Do it, for the sake of Christ, DO IT!

    Yep.

Dude, you better go see them, or I'll fly over to your location exclusively to barbarically slaughter you. Now we don't want that, do we? Seriously, Amon Amarth will rip your head off and smash it against the gates of Valhalla, you'll love 'em. I'm going in December to see them exclusively, don't care much for the mainstagers Trivium and Children of Bodom which are playing.

Edit: Wow, Exodus' new album "Shovel Headed Killing Machine" is really really cool. It's not extremely fast but it's still great, I need to listen to it more and get into it. I saw a video for "War Is My Shepard" from the previous album last night on TV, was cool... but this album is way better than Tempo of the Damned. They've had a lot of lineup changes but maybe this one will last for a while? They're pulling off some good shit now so hopefully they'll keep at it and grow as a band even further. Exodus are such a true band... I can't help but think what's going through Kirk Hammet's mind.

Exodus are ok to me. Just ok. Most trash metal is way too slow for me, plus I rarely like the sound or anything. I like slow black metal, though. Most slow metal just doesn't appeal to me, though... Whatever.
    And for good measure...

Thrash is slow? Seems you've been listening to the wrong bands. Can you honestly say Slayer are slow? Megadeth (have you listened to Mechanix)? Forbidden? Whiplash? Testament? Anacrusis? Vio-lence? Blood Feast? Cyclone? Exumer? Nuclear Assault? Dark Angel? Speed Kill Hate? Kreator? Torture Squad? See, all of those mentioned bands are hardly what you could call slow, average even. Listen to at least three of them and I'm sure you'll change your mind.

    Indeed.

Thrash metal is all about speed and energy. It's a scene that rose in spite against the hair/glam metal in the West coast. Just a bunch of "true" teenagers that were listening to Maiden, Priest, Bathory, Venom, and Hellhammer and they said: let's crush these posers. So thrash metal got faster and faster, and pretty soon bands like Possessed(first death metal band) started popping up all over the US and later in Europe(Entombed, Dismember, Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death(they were around from before tho), etc.) and the rest of the world.

I understand what you're trying to say lagwagon. When I got into thrash I was listening to bands like Deicide, Arsis, and Decapitated so I wasn't too impressed, but in order to enjoy thrash you have to ignore Hate Eternal, Nile, and Behemoth for a moment, otherwise you'll always think of thrash as weak wannabe DM.

Early Sepultura... that's like the fastest thrash will ever get without using a blastbeat. Get their 1991 live video or some live performance(live shows are always played faster), now that's speed.

Btw, has anyone ever listened to Crucified Mortals? It's a pure modern thrash band from the US that had Novy(from Vader, Dies Irae, and ex-Behemoth) on bass. They're quite cool, get their demos if you can find them. Speaking of demos... Vader's first demo "Morbid Reich" is fuckin awesome!

Edit2: Holy fuck... I just figured out like 4 riffs from Arsis' "Maddening Disdain". They must be accurate... I'm playing it right over the song. It's in D tuning if anyone's interested. Sometime soon I'll record some videos of me playing some metal tracks, I've gotten a lot better recently. Forget about this song's solo... I'm not nearly as experienced!

Other than that, im going with Sepultura. Cannibal Corpse. Deicide. Obituary. Morbid Angel. Dying Fetus. Six Feet Under. probably a few i didnt mention, but off the top of my head with 3 hours of sleep (cant think). mostly american bands though, cuz i dont know too many from the foreigners...All i know is bangin' the head creates problems for those around me Ive been listening to thrash/speed/death for about 13 years, and it just gets me insane when i see one of them come to vEgas!!

Now that's a true oldschool fan right there. Rep goes to you, m8. If you want to check out some European death and thrash metal legends:

Thrash: Sodom(!), Kreator(like Slayer sort of), Destruction(like Anthrax), Stone, and tons more extremely awesome but short-lived bands from small countries..

Death: early Entombed, Dismember, Avulsed(a lot like Cannibal Corpse), Vader(like Slayer on crack), Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, Carcass. Though they haven't been around long, Decapitated are another extremely good DM band from Poland, they sound a bit like Vader... but more precisely: a modernized mix of Morbid Angel, Obituary, and Cannibal Corpse.

... and there's always Venom, Bathory, and Motrhead.

I want to see some more thrash bands live... I'll hopefully be seeing Sodom and Finntroll next year if I'm back from Spain by Jan. 8th, and I get to see Napalm Death with Kreator again in Feb. Oh yeah... Nile and Decapitated in Feb too.

Hey Soeru, think you could recommend a few bands that are similar to Arsis for me? You recommended Arsis a few months ago and I have to say that I've REALLY been loving them as of late. Anything similar would ROCK. Thanks, man. \m/()\m/

Arsis... All I can think of is The Crown. Same style of heaviness, but not melodic like Arsis. I remember someone once told me about Vehemence in regards to Arsis, not that they sound like them IMO, but they're a good band nonetheless. Maybe you'll like Akercocke too...
