Nah I wouldn't sodomize him, I'd be gentler and impale his ass atop of a cathedral.

Nah seriously just listen to whatever you like. Some people just don't like death metal but they like everything else metal has to offer. Like some hardcore black metal fans don't like death metal all that much. I know some people that are HUGE thrash metal fans and yet they don't care much for band like Nile, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, etc. They do like the very oldschool death/thrash bands though, but they stick to Kreator, Megadeth, Destruction, Testament, etc. Some of the coolest people I've met btw.

Btw, speaking of cathedrals, I just saw a church that was on the other side of my block for the first time yesterday(wandered around for no reason). It was so incredibly grim, windy but very silent, with dead leaves blowing and shit. And the best part: I happened to be listening to Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness as I passed in front of it, and had my "Blessed Are the Sick/Leading the Rats" shirt on, which made it a billion times grimer.

I can't help but wonder what Morbid are up to now, they're not on tour anymore so I can only hope they're rehearsing and writing new shit. It's both scary and exciting to see what they'll come up with after so many years without the original lineup. I really don't care what approach they take, I'm confident they'll put out something very good, it appears that the band's chemistry is back like it used to be. Of course, I wouldn't mind AT ALL if it were anything like the old stuff, but maybe trying something new might be cool. I just hope they keep those atmospheric tracks to a minimum and give the listeners more fuckin' songs. Heretic would've been a cool album if it didn't have just 4 or 5 real songs... Frankly I don't see what's wrong with those songs, some people just need to stop expecting "Omg the most brutal shit ev3r" from every death metal band, sometimes heaviness isn't everything. One thing I do wanna see is more speed, like on FFtF, Covenant or Altars. Sludgy tracks are cool but I think Morbid Angel pull off faster songs a lot better(except for the solos, slower solos are nicer).

To Theo: Morbid Angel are THE definition of death metal. Their first 3 albums are something you'll really like, especially the 3rd (Covenant) at first, since it resembles modern DM somewhat.

Anybody here like Strapping Young Lad? I like them, but just like. Lots of people seem to really love them. They're just kind of boring in my opinion. The sionger does look cool though.

Yeah, I love Strapping Young Lad. Their newest album Alien and City are their best albums, though SYL isn't too bad either. Their first is a bit boring.

Yeah, Devin does look kinda cool.

Well, I've only heard about half of SYL of all of Alien, so I guess if I listen more I'd like them more (maybe).
The guitarist from them is (I was surprised anyway) for Fear Factory also.
Speaking of FF, their new album wasn't great at all. Just average stuff, and they could have done much better.

edit: this is probably really obvious, but i just noticed that the part in the last 5 seconds of Dream Theater's 'This Dying Soul' is the exact same melody to the their song 'The Root of All Evil from Octavarium.

Not only that, but the whole chorus meldoy is re-used in The Root of All Evil. DT are known to do these kinds of things. You can hear Space-Dye Vest's main melody in The Mirror too. In fact, every DT album since Six Degrees has opened with the last ending note or melody from the closing track of the previous album.

    EDIT:

Omfg. I just listened to Bathory's "Nordland" for the first time. Gone are the days of listening to only Hammerheart and Blood Fire Death. Epic as fuck, highly reccomended.

I don't really listen to SYL nor DT, maybe I should give their stuff a couple of listens, but what I've heard of DT so far I'm not too pleased with. The reason I don't like SYL is because of all the industrial/electronic elements, but I've only listened to a few songs despite having all their CD's...

I disagree with a lot of what he said too, but the whole "reunion for a day"-thing was the most interesting part of it. If they where to play at Wacken 2006 with Kiske as a guest-star, I'll fucking be there.

Yes, I heard of this a few weeks ago. I await patiently for their next album, In Flames' next release, and Arsis' next full-length.

I have had them all for over a year, but I've only thoroughly listened to the self titled, Hammerheart, and Blood Fire Death.
