FFVIII isn't that bad the story is just full of weird things that make absolutly no sense like the point where they all remember living together with the sorceress they were fighting was their guardian. Then they proceed to cover up their forgetfulness by blaming it on the GFs even though some of the characters had only just started using GFs????? The other thing that bother me is how easy it is to become a god by not leveling at all and drawing a ton of magic. You can have super stats right at the start of the game if you just spend some time drawing and not gaining exp.
The first time I played the game I made the mistake of leveling up and getting to a boss very late in the game at like lvl 97 and the boss was next to impossible and was never able to beat it. Took me a few years before i picked the game up again to finish and I just blazed through never really getting over lvl 30.
VIII wasn't too bad, I liked the card game, and the fact that you could get some pretty sweet stuff out of the cards, the whole "monsters level up as you do" really sucked... it worked for SaGa Frontier, but definitely not FFVIII, the whole drawing crap was tedious, and the lack of character developement was pretty sad... another thing I didn't like too much about IX was the whole damage cap thing... Ark was no stronger than Zidane's primary attack for me... that's just asinine...
When I want your opinion, I will diffuse it from you through osmosis!
I deleted my FFIX it sucks. Oh well maybe I'll just replay FFVII. Or i'll probably get starocean for psx or something

hell yeah. i loved the card games in FF8. i wish it had online playOriginally Posted by Lonewolf
The card game was luck based. And the random rules just ruined it. I didnt like battling exept getting that Lungrant guys card? I forgot his name but if you reformed his card it gave you 100 heros. damn that made the game redicoulsy easy. =POriginally Posted by X][Venom][X
luck based? so the numbers and elements added to each card was put there for the hell of it?![]()
I mean luck by what cards you draw from the random rule and where the computer will put its card etc.Originally Posted by X][Venom][X
Nuro its not really more of a childish one. Overall the game is very fun. The gameplay is great and the storyline.. well its OKAY not to great but not to bad. If you still want another great RPG (as long as you don't care about graphics) play the old Final Fantasys and Breath of Fire 1 and 2. Xenogears is good, but Xenosaga is more like a movie and it gets boring. Star Ocean 1 and Star Ocean: The Second Story are both fun games, depending on a few things. It has a somewhat unique battle system. If you play star ocean: till the end of time before these then you might not like them. I think they are better though. So yeah those are just a few great RPGS you should definatly play.
I like the Card Game in FF8,It better than FF9.
Uh, I did play starocean till the end of time. Im playing xenogears tho that games way better than ff9.![]()
I never got to beat xenogears, when I owned it I got to the very last place in the game, but the enemys were insanely hard doing like around 9000 to my gears... I would have beaten it but everytime I went to play it I had to do something else and the place i was at seemed confusing to me.. everything looked the same, (if thats the game im thinking of haha.) Now im playing it again, but I am in the middle of tons of games and im trying to beat them all.. ha.. mostly old SNES rpgs.. but yeah.
FF9 is worth playing just get past the beginning and then the game gets somewhat fun. Do it.. Do it.. [beat Xenogears first (its better)].
I figure that most people who say 'FFIX sucks' (or something similar), haven't even bothered to finish the first disc. I agree that it starts up a tad bit slowly, which admittedly is a bad thing, but when they start the whole eidolon part of the game... wow... just WOW. The Bahamut FMV was simply breathtaking. And the Atomos attack FMV was awesome as well. I half expected a cow to fly in, Twister-style
As for FFVIII, it's a game with a story that actually needs the player to have more then 2 neurons at a time. It's actually one of the few games that I can actually put on the same level as a good book (along with Xenogears
). Besides your usual 'bad guy is on the loose and we have to catch him'-theme, this story had far more going for it. Characters actually had distinct personalities besides the stereo-type fighter character, big boob-betty with unexplained uber strength and the innocent girly-type. Granted, Squall was actually ine of the weaker characters with the typical 'unwilling hero' display, but even he was an enjoyable character if you actually took the time and didn't just dismiss it. I'll bet many people just skip the conversations between character. That is actually the part that tells you the most. It isn't the battles you fight, it isn't the places you visit, it's the things the characters say that really bring the game to life.
Granted, the junction system was badly implemented since you could make your characters FAR too strong with it later on in the game. Nevertheless, the principle behind the system was actually very good. If they had refined it a bit more and balanced it out, it would've made for the best system ever. I've heard people complain it was 'too complex' or 'not worth my time'. Well, to those people; please get your ass out of your Lazy Boy and to your nearest gaming store and buy Counter Strike or something. Or better yet, get a lobotomy. It might actually *improve* your intellectual capacity. Seriously, as you might've noticed by now, I hate gamers who complain about having to use 2 extra braincells to play a game.
