Problem renaming GBA roms.

Ok, here I go.

After trying to audit all the GBA roms I have with GBA-Renamer found at www.gba-renamer.com, I saw that the DAT file hasn't been updated in a long time. Since it's kinda old, it doesn' detect roms over 400 like valid roms. (Well that's what I think)

I've tried to rename my roms with other softwares like Romcenter and ClrMamePro, and I failed.

So now, does anyone have yet renamed all his gba roms with success?
Does anyone knows where to find an updated .dat file for Gba-Renamer?
Or
Can anyone provide me a step by step for renaming GBA roms with Romcenter or ClrMamePro.

I have already PM'ed Sprung, since he was online at the moment I wanted to rename my roms and well, he doesn't really know since he does it another way (manually).

Thanks in advance, i'm open for any suggestion except manual way since I want all the roms informations (Bad Dump, Size Striped, release group etc)

This depends on the set you have and want renaming I have the originals dump set so I use the dat from http://releases.pocketheaven.com/

I only DL the ClrMamePro one but I convert it to a RomCenter Dat as there RomCenter one does not seem to work for me, I am using an older version of RomCenter aswell so it might just be that

the converter is included with RomCenter it's called datutil.exe, though it's a comand line prog, AKA dos.

If it is that set you have there is a rather good VBA front end called GBAfront that will also recognise those roms but doesn't rename em but will list them nice with a screen shot from ingame and title plus a box cover, it gets a lil behind but can't say that has ever bothered me , think of Mame32 and well it looks a lil like that, or has the same feel to it

Edit:- by the sounds of it you don't have the orginal release set but a diff set maybe, either that or you just can't get to grips with the progs you are trying.

Could you do an almost step by step FAQ with romcenter or ClrMamePeo?
Whatever I do check or not in ClrMamePro or whatever I tri in Romcenter fails.
I tried right clicking the roms in Romcenter and choosing "Fix this game" and I also tried choosing "rename roms", it doesn't work, my roms stay with their names.

BTW, I opened one of the rom that couldn't be ranamed any way with an hex editor, and the header looks fine.

huh they only rename the files not the headers

not sure what you were trying there at all you got me confused

by the way what colour/color were the roms shown as in RomCenter?

I know it does not rename the headers.
Aren't rom renamed with the header information and the crc?

And when I loaded up the roms in Romcenter it gave me this. See screen.

crc yes header no, it's easy to fake the header so it checks the crc32 data instead

the roms you have are not from that set

gray = not in the set
red = bad rom/file
yellow = good rom bad name (these will go green when fixed aka renamed)
green = good rom good name

Where did you got all of your GBa roms then?
I need to be able to get them each of them separatly too.

irc aka mirc is your best bet for the pure rom set the site ones specially the older roms are not from that set

I'll check one of the roms though name one from chinaGBA I can check out that you have and shows gray just to verify

Rom number 401 - 402 - 422 are gray. There is a big bunch though, something like 39 that were grey.... :\
Any channel i should look for roms?

they don't seem to have any of those :/ I found the DL link for 401 but reported not such file on ftp the others I couldn't even find a link to em

P.S. I got them as they came out from lots of diff places, most of em not around now

IRC is the best place for the pure set now

Ok then... Could you try downloading rom 401 from grn.dl.am then? I tried this one too and it stays grey.

deffo not from the set, went the gay gray shade for me aswell, it has the wrong crc in it

So this is not a problem with any of the renamers but simply the wrong rom

I actully know what the diff is aswell apart from the crc that one has had the dumpers intro removed

For those interested, i'm getting all my games from emuvortex.net now.
Faster than IRC and they got all the pure gba set. Yay!
