took some time to check to see if my linux distro would work on my desktop. it was successful looks like it was my external dvd that was the problem. I messed with it for a few minutes MX KDE is a lot like win 8.1 looks like it'll be fairly easy to adapt to.
I think I'll do a partition and install soon.

one thing that just hit me is most of my data that I want is on my win partition and I don't think any either of my externals have enough space left for everything and trying to redownload it won't be easy or possible.
