Optimally you need a later slim for mechapwn. 77xxx NA model should let you play nearly anything, even PS1 burned discs, and yeah imports without region patching.

My main exploited slim is 77002, has fmcb and mechpwn but I only use master disc patched games not esr.
I've also got a pink slim 77002 with modchip, also matching pink controller and MC.

If you've got a network adapter you can run games over the network to test; or HDD, whichever would be easier for you.

I used to do the network adapter with open loader it worked good for some games but always had issues with cutscenes and sometimes got stuck on loading screens. unfortunately I can't do the network anymore since I can't use a wired connection also can't do hdd I don't have a spare ide drive I do have a 40gb 2.5" sata I could also use usb but I heard load times suck due to usb 1.1(or whatever the ps2 uses). I just looked I have 2 dvds left I thought I had 4.

I think it's been rumored that there's a PC port on the horizon but it's still Sony exclusive as far as I know.
