I have done some repairs myself but I'm not in the US obviously so can't help irl

Jazz has way more experience doing complicated stuff, but there are quite a few more common issues I'm familiar with depending on what console it is. I've also done modchips in the past but not recently.
Also, most consoles I've done work on are PAL but some are Japanese.
I have a lot of consoles but I'm still missing some platforms (PC Engine and some others).

currently I have 2 problem consoles 1 of which I'm really upset about. my ps3 died a couple weeks ago it's either the psu or far more likely the wifi/bluetooth and my psp has a broken screen
I was going to hook it up yo my tv but I can't find the fucking option for it i was thinking about a new screen for it but i don't know if it requires soldering or special screwdrivers.

It's fun af. I can get new clothes for like a dollar each lol.

I work for a place that's Half a Thrift Store, and half a Work Program. I'm in the work program side working on manufacturing stuff. But it's fun to work for a Thrift Store. Definitely interesting.

If the PS3 is later non-fat model pretty sure the wifi/BT is actually on the motherboard and not a separate module you can just swap out.
PSU it's possible to make up a ghetto psu using PC PSU iirc but I've only seen it done for fat models... I'm guessing it's the same for any model though just less or more complicated. Different models have different power requirements.

So basically; if it's a slim or SS it won't be as easy to diagnose and repair.

I actually haven't repaired a PSP screen yet. I do have a few different models, even an Asian model but all still work ok.
The Asian console could do with a fresh joystick top, looks like it has damage from nail varnish remover or something similar (bit melted). The joystick still works ok though.

From what I read to replace PSP screen there isn't any soldering.
Philips head screwdriver is needed, no special tools as such but it's possible to damage some stuff if you aren't careful: cable connector can be broken, strip screws by not applying enough pressure (they're tight apparently).

I've done DS screens before (no soldering unless you blow fuse) and PSP seems less complicated overall, but as I said I haven't done it myself.

Another thing to worry about with this sort of thing is dust getting in when you're replacing a screen.

I wish I had kept a collection of guides from various games and eras before Megaupload went down. Before Megaupload was gone, you could find pretty much anything.

I have the SS model if it's the psu it's an easy fix you just replace it with a new one it's literally just screwed in. I have a page bookmarked for the other issue it's a bit more complicated you have to remove the chips from the board
you can do without replacing them but you won't be able to update your system(which I haven't done since I installed hen) the link is a god send I'm going to try that this weekend.

that's good to know I'll look around and see what a new screen will cost.

Honestly I would just see if you can use the PSP via tv. If you can use it that way then do so until you get another console and keep the old one for parts (UMD drive etc).
I'm assuming it isn't an LE variant though.

As I said I have several PSP's, different models. I never paid much for them except the first one I got (E1000) which was very lightly used store ex-display (inside locked display case not just sitting on a counter). Pretty sure that was from Kmart and they stopped selling the games like a year before that anyway. It was basically abandoned and forgotten in the display case Didn't cost much anyway (like $30 or something) but that was the most I ever paid.

I've got into the habit of duping my consoles in recent years. I always did do it to some extent but I'm a bit OCD about it now. Nothing worse than having one unit and then something goes wrong, so I did something about it Maybe went too far, but whatever. I have some non-working consoles for spares too (not PSP, but PS3 is an example of that).

I found a huge list of strategy guides, unfortunately Dark Cloud 1 and 2 aren't in there but if you want it I can dm it to you.

that's a sweet deal $30 for a display model $50 was the most I payed for a psp and I think that was the 2k model I bought from gyp some years ago. nothing wrong with having extras especially ps3 now with having no other way to play ps3 games.
