As is mentioned in that thread, we need mosquitos for population control otherwise we'd go well beyond the Earth's carrying capacity and strip the Earth of all its resources and become extinct. Mosquitos allow us to populate the planet with 7 billion+ humans without having to resort to war in order to claim resources and reduce the population, mosquitos are natural agents of peace and balance in the environment. Look at Mars, being the god of war its planet is 100% peaceful because there is no life brimming on it to fight for survival or resources.
But, mosquitos serve a greater purpose than that. They are a natural gene-editing tool because of horizontal gene transfer. Which allows unrelated species to share genes within their ecosystem and greatly increases biodiversity. On a cosmic scale horizontal gene transfer allows planet-to-planet gene transfer. Theoretically speaking, let's say a meteor or other body of space rock bearing alien microbes lands on Earth. Animals coming in contact with it carry those microbes and mosquitos transfer them to other animals including humans. Over relatively short periods of geological time on Earth its biology gets boosts within gene pools from horizontal gene transfer not just from genes originating on Earth but from other star systems. If mosquitos didn't exist we'd have to bio-engineer them once we're an intelligent enough species to all know what their 'purpose' is environmentally and galactically.
Lastly, if you plan on having children with awesome genes, I recommend being bitten by swarms of mosquitoes purposely beforehand and building up antibodies to viruses. The mother passes on those antibodies to her children breast feeding, she also transfers genes horizontally passed on to her by the mosquitos and by the father's genes(also horizontally transferred to him). You stand a chance to transfer alien genes and if you want to have a child, mosquitos are a natural gene-editing tool which helps us have greater interplanetary biodiversity.
