Spoiler warning:
Days Gone
About 80 hours into Xenoblade 2, and (I think) nearing the end of the main story now.
I'm generally a big Xeno fan, so I was a little surprised at how long the game actually took to grow on me. Between the incredibly poorly explained tutorials that left a lot of the battle system a mystery to me, the tacky fan service and character designs (particularly for many of the female characters), the poor pacing, and the incredibly awkward tone that lurched between uninspired comedy and stony faced seriousness with very little grace, I actually thought the opening stretch of the game was a bit crap, and I was really only playing for the gorgeous environments, and as a means of justifying the money I spent on the game.
The game comes into its own in a big way after those shaky first few hours, though, and it's grown on me more and more as it's gone on. The various gameplay systems are actually tons of fun once you get a handle on them (though I had to watch some Youtube videos to do so, so the in game tutorials are unmistakably a bit shit :'D), the game eventually finds a somewhat better balance between humour and seriousness, the story and lore become quite interesting as the game progresses, and the cheeseball fan service is generally a little less front and centre after the game's opening hours (though a lot of the character designs are still pretty cringe, even for a Xeno game). On the whole, it's a wee bit rough around the edges and I think you can tell that a lot of Monolith's staff were busy with Breath of the Wild during its development, but I've still had more fun with it than I have pretty much any other JRPG released in the last five or six years, and I think it's a more than worthy successor to the first game. <3
Also, oh my god that soundtrack. Genuinely one of the best game soundtracks ever, for my money. Usually even with soundtracks that I really like, there are at least a handful of songs that don't click with me for whatever reason, and that I wouldn't really think of listening to outside of the game. But I like pretty much everything here, and there are so many songs that would be absolute standouts if you dropped them into pretty much any other game soundtrack you care to name. I keep expecting to be disappointed eventually, but with every new area and new scene, the game keeps knocking it out of the park musically, and even if I hadn't warmed to the game eventually, I'd probably still be playing for the environments and music.
Some recent clears: Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Kuon, Tales of the Abyss, Vagrant Story.
Currently going through Dark Souls II aka easy Souls. Also playing some Armored Core 2 here and there.
Finishing up on Days Gone. After that, not sure.
I'm playing pokemon heartgold, smurf racer and bugs bunny lost in time.
I tried to play Super Smash bros brawl, but i hated how reckless the computer player is, because i was mostly on one place, while the computer fighters were jumping around. This makes them a lot more vulnerable, and i took advantage of that.
I got to play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue team.
I played with Articuno and Seel, and died on the few first floors (F10 or fewer).
Pokemon Conquest, it's fun and challenging. So far I've captured 3 castles.![]()
