ok, cool. My brother has been giving me money to upgrade his IBM PS/1, 486SX @ 25MHz. Default was 4MBs, but it currently has 20 and another stick coming to bring it to the max of 32MBs. They never had CD ROMs so I was trying to cover all the bases for the one I am installing. I just need to tinker with "drivers"... For DOS/Win3.1 I need to edit config.sys, autoexec.bat and copy over one of several "universal" drivers.
This is just to get it onto Windows 95 or 98 of which will recognize the drive natively, I guess.
32mb should be plenty. Way back when I had a couple of the first pentiums I ran 32mb and more (probably 64 or something). I used CD burners on those rigs
Win95 early version also came on floppies. A heap of them![]()
Spoiler warning:
I just went out to the shed and took a quick look at what I have. I actually have two complete 486 rigs atm.
IBM PS/ValuePoint
486 O/D PR100+
8mb ram
1mb video
Soundblaster Pro + Creative CD rom combo (hooked up to the sound card IDE port and audio jack).
Win95.
The other is a more basic IBM PS/1 486SX, with two floppy drives (one of each size). Pretty sure that one is running win3.11 and I haven't noted the overall specs.
Spoiler warning:
Used to have a 486 dx4/100. Ah the good old days!!! Think I had 16mb ram on that![]()
I actually went back and popped open that SX as it's a screwless case. Looks like a DX4 cpu is in there now, but the rig only has 8bit soundcard.
Spoiler warning:
I have a box of old cpu's, it's possible I swapped that in myself years ago
I also have a box of misc ram too so both of those rigs could probably be maxed out.

I forgot some sound cards come with an extra IDE connector. My brother has a Sound Blaster on the way. Pretty excited to upgrade from the PC Speaker.
Pshh. 100MHz.
If you got time, see if you can locate a 486DX 25 or 33MHz 169 pins (NOT 168) or maybe even a 486DX2OD66. Maybe you have a 'free' one in one of your boxes of CPUs.![]()
been playing FO3 found something interesting not sure if its a bug or not but when you're inside someones house and steal something you can put it inside a container(fridge cabinet ect) take it back out to get a neg karma hit.
