If you have a Craigslist equivalent in Australia you could probably get a computer or parts that would be a bit better than a PS4 for less or around the same. With enough patience that is .

Cragslist is only for the big cities, I mean state capitals and a lot of it is gay personal ads, literally. We do have Gumtree but there's hardly ever anyway good nearby, used PC stuff I would prefer free or virtually free and that won't happen on Gumtree.
Xbox One S is cheaper than PS4 Slim (I have a fat anyway).

Spending $80 or more for a graphics card and then having to get 8GB ram kit seemed like a waste of money...so it put it towards another console instead.

Just had a look on gumtree before, anything free is older than what I have. There are plenty of ads looking to collect stuff for free.
Only saw one thing under $100 within a 30 minute drive - i5 media center with 4GB ram running win10 $70. Oh and there's a hp server with 2x xeon quads 16GB ram and raid 6x HDDs for $200.

There are some ads for "new custom builds" $250-400, but non-business ads like that I always assume they recycle parts and cut corners.

Thought I'd say something since you mentioned Skyrim mods. I picked up parts for my overkill XP build not long ago and did quite nicely. If I felt like using the 3570k instead of the 3770k I could've ended up at under $200 for a full rig .

I can understand not wanting to get jerked around though. Had people flake out many a time.

Yeah the whole pc thing is meh, and used parts are suspect anyway. I just don't have any solid sources for that now. Going new for a few parts is what I looked at before buying the S and the console was better value for my dollars, remember I like collecting them though.

Eventually some better gear will probably come my way but I wasn't going to wait for it.
