Even if you buy 4k BD you can still watch those on 1080p tv.
AFAIK there are HDR capable 1080p tvs being made now but maybe they're still very limited in number, but I read somewhere that the S won't output HDR if it can't detect a 4k screen...dunno if that is true.

It still upscales apparently and it's supposed to do a good job of it and the S supports HDR too.

Dude that's just upscaling. A 4k tv can do that to PS3 games.
BD player will upscale DVD to 1080p.

Even the PS4 Pro doesn't have decent 4k gaming. The X is the best thing in the console world atm.

Oh no no I know it's just upscaling, the S is just supposed to do a good job of it over the tv itself doing it.

Go 4k then if you want a new tv. It's only worth it if you get into 4k BD and videos though...everything else is upscaled and you get that even without the S.

In the end if I'm gonna get a new tv once again I may as well go with a decent 4k, at least the option is there for the future if the need arises for it's full capabilities. Still it'll probably be awhile until I do anyhow.

Well, movies upscaled to 4K aren't too bad. Better BD releases are often based off higher transfers than 1080p anyway. But in general I'd agree.
