If you want CFW then go for any fat or a slim model under 25xx.
Fat 40GB models would be the cheapest option, they aren't worth much.

yeah I was planning on a fat for that reason. I haven't checked prices yet.

There aren't any cheap ones that are just as good as genuine. Unless you wanna sacrifice a few things...like the Hori I have is wired, no rumble and no motion sensors, it works fine for all the games I use it for though, plus it works on PS4 and has some extra buttons. It's a fps style controller (stick layout is like xbox).
Most of the cheaper ones have bad sticks for starters, but some don't have motion sensors as well.

Actually last time I checked prices for my Hori they had gone up, so it may not be much cheaper than genuine now.
Also there are some DS3 fakes being sold for quite a while.

do you know how many games actually use motion controls?

idk how many total but games like Lair they're optional, you can use "normal controls" instead for flying, sticks etc.
But for The Last of Us you need to tap the controller if your flashlight starts to flicker or it'll die on you completely.
I've played all the way through that using my Hori, all I did was hardly ever use my flashlight...but I know the game pretty well so it wasn't a big deal for me.

I can't think of any others right now but those 2 are ones I've encountered using my Hori. Most games I've played using a genuine controller on my super slim and I can't remember if any of those had motion stuff

Anyway the more important thing to be concerned about is the quality of the thumb sticks. Cheap controllers are notorious for having poor quality parts and it's highly likely you'll have either a huge dead zone and/or virtually zero partial sensitivity (like for slow walking, precision aiming etc in games).

I have a non-genuine (bigben) DS3 wired and it's total shit. Well it is for me anyway...just totally useless for anything involving shooting.
After testing it once I threw it into a box of spare shit that I never use

Tried playing BS2 Remastered today, it was given to me for free because i have the original... I see why it was given to me for free and I also see why they make sure you have to buy the shitty remastered version to have the original now too. The "REMASTERED" part of the title laughable, textures look slightly better but no way in hell they are 4k and water looks a TEENY TINEY bit better too, ya' know some extra rippling :/ ... the pay off for slightly better textures and "OH MUH GURD WATA LOOKS 1X BETTA!!!" ?

    Crashes when you save
crashes when you use iron sites
crashes when you rescue a little sister
crashes when you harvest with a little sister
crashes when there is alot happening on screen
crashes when theres to many particles on screen
crashes when you use certain plasmids
crashes when you use the shotgun
    the list goes on...

All that after almost 2 years of it being released and 2 patches, CONINCIDENTALY both patches being released around christmas time and both times steam didn't tell me it was updated (nor was there a FINISHED plate in the download section) so i wonder if they were updated atall :/.

Edit: Infact, after booting up the original i'd say it actually looks BETTER than the remastered version as the shadows look WAY more moody...the sound effects are also better on the original as they have a distance factor to them, thats gone in the remastered ..
