Ok here is an example, system shock 2 music even though it works on old school mp3s and is a drum and bass...jungle...electronic mishmash, when composing that its still ALL midi just daaaaaymn good midi, expencive midi, 5000 dorra keyboard midi with a couple of drum loop synths XD And i guess they have given that....but its just bioshocks music pushed into system shock with again dubstep, that isn't doing medical justice in my opinion, you get no cool guitar whine while you are waking up and beating mutants off with a pipe XD you dont get a reeeeally aggressive sounding industrial track in reactor that honestly sounds like something big mean, is angry and looking at you XD thats what im getting at i guess. The feel and love isn't there and neither is the hardware they promised.

Riven is another example, the synths used in that are still synths but they are so expencive, so much hardware and software pumped into them the soundfont almost sounds real...and nowadays hell YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERNECE! its THAT good

It adds a lot of complexity to the sound design though. A good number of stings and varied tracks is a nice compromise.

Maybe they'll fix some of these issues before release? There's still time and KS projects tend to set overzealous dates .

I wish i could have faith in that bud, i really do oh they've also taken away the hacker's ponytail....that to my symbolises what they wanna' do toit, im out. System Shock was a dark take on things that were happening in our culture at the time and MOSTLY star trek. IT wasn't made for everyone and when you try? It makes everything that people did like about the first fail because you arnt basing it ON THOSE THING (and again, the whole thing was "lets make star trek into a cyber punk!" and system shcok was born)

I'm not sure what's so challenging about taking a classic game and only improving what needs it.

BEcause that doesn't make "mmmmmmmmOOONEEEEEHHH!" Think about it, these games back then...infact ALL games were niche back then. There was a game for everything and everyone and if making money hand over fist is NOT on your mind then you can still doit, easily...and people will love it and give you money enough to live....but big companies and now little shits dont want that, they want all the moneh they want max profit for minimum content...old games were not that for a start, they were good proft for MAX content.

Japan honestly taught me this XD you can make niche games and stay alive for years, look at ys saga o.o that has remained niche its ENTIRE life and that company is doing nothing but getting stronger, it came VERY Close to dieing i will admit...wanna know when ? when they tried to go mainstream and become like everyone else XD They realised their mistake ad went back to niche...now we are upto ys VIII

It's still possible over here it's just that Activision, EA, and Ubisoft gobble up the smaller developers. IP that could generate good profit for small or mid-sized developers isn't sufficient for the big publishers because of the absurd way they work now.

Look at Pillars of Eternity or the Divinity series as decent examples. PoE and Divinity: OS have around 1 - 1.5million units moved according to Steamspy and probably a few hundred thousand to a million more from GOG and other channels. That's crap by big publisher standards but still good for companies that aren't enormous.
