About 10 years ago there was a British show called Hyperdrive. Had Nick Frost in it.
It isn't that good either.
Probably the only show that is sorta similar and actually funny is Red Dwarf. Well, the classic stuff anyway...the more recent eps aren't as funny and are pretty much feeding off the glory days.
I grabbed 5 eps of Orville and I'll give it a look anyway
