I'm partly at fault I shouldn't have tried to buy a bran new canon printer with ink for $16.

Pretty obvious scam methinks . Still, you should be able to get it back with enough complaining.

I'd poke around at thrift stores and garage sales when you have time. Usually you can find something alright with enough searching. I'd also recommend buying off brand ink. It's a lot cheaper and I doubt you need the absolute best print quality the printer can muster (which is pointless with consumer printers or combos).
