1, ideal for saying thanks for something a user considers,genuinely useful, and as gfx on a screen goes, does motivate, restores a little faith in humanity, as it's whats at the dashboard.(i think, unless my web has been a fuckin giant bot simulation, and i never did interacted with real person ever?!
2, the big downside to it, is because of some gobby-cliquey fucks, it can undermine some who genuinely contribute.
seen some stuff added to the site get ripped but ignored, while a few knows get all the clicks...coz they avatar sexy, or like cut of giblets. fuckknows!
this also applies of two separate users contribute equally valid 'items' (you decide what that is) where one is also known and gets the clicks, while the newb is left to fuckin die showing their valid contribution are a genuine waste of their time here, and i'm VERY much inclined to agree with that.

just my thought on a bullshit rep system, and it pissed me off at tiz, and i have old rep there in green...that STILL did my head in, as much of it (imo) wasn't genuinely earned.
