What happened to your internet?
Spoiler warning:
Beats me. I suspect it has something to do with me pointing out that they've bee double billing me since February and still haven't corrected it. They resolved the billing issue then my Internet went out an hour later. Spent the last few days playing phone tag trying to convince them that no, things worked totally fine until they fucked something up and it's totally not on my end since the only connection issue is from outside.
What country are you in?![]()
Spoiler warning:
I envy people overseas having better speeds, but I don't envy all the issues that some people have. Like you mentioned lack of competition, and then there's monitoring of nearly everything in some places (and blocking).
Worst that happens here is a lighting strike somewhere or the odd intense bushfire takes out something for a few hours (it's usually the electricity). But it doesn't happen to me much, and I don't even live in a city.
Spoiler warning:
Mutant Kangaroo uprising!
Koalas going on a rape and pillage spree is more of a worry. Chlamydia
Kangaroos are only (sort of) dangerous if you hit a large type at high speed.
Spoiler warning:
I don't normally have issues like this but it's been all at once since January. Someone's asleep at the wheel. But I have like one or two other options for ISP and they suck considerably more dick.
"Some places"
Everyone monitors shit. It's just that some places are a lot more up front about it.
Chances are you're accessing this site through a half dozen government owned and operated servers. They keep logs and such. It's not all that hard to monitor things because of how the Internet works.
I'd wager that everything I've ever done online has been logged somewhere. Doesn't mean there's much shit that'll be done about it. I don't do anything super illegal online so there's not much to prosecute. And even then proving it gets a bit iffy.
The authorities only spend money monitoring certain things here. Pedos and terrorists.
Everything else is a waste of resources.
Spoiler warning:
Not a whole lot different here.
Although it has been used as evidence in some other cases. I recall one murder case in town involving a claim it was "low end second degree or manslaughter" and the guy in question was panicked, freaking out and covered up an accidental death. Police subbed his phone/net provider. Turns out he was browsing the Internet for a good bit after the estimated time of death and therefore was likely on a calm state of mind while disposing of the body. Had time to plan the whole thing out. This was also used to imply he may have had it in his head for for a while to off his wife and it just sort of happened that night.
Hurt the hell out of his case.
Oh yeah you can have data dug up, but they need a court order for that and obviously there has to be other evidence for the court order to be issued. Also, your house gets raided for something (drugs or whatever) due to an informant and all your computers, HDDs and backup discs are seized then they go through everything. But even if that happens, for piracy there really needs to be evidence that you were running a business making heaps of copies and selling them. Your own collection of pirated movies/CDs sitting there? They'll take that but you won't be charged for anything related to it.
Getting a court order for phone info etc isn't the same as actively monitoring people. They're only proactively looking for pedos and terrorists.
And file hosts aren't blocked by ISPs because that's what the government "told them to do".
I mean shit has been posted on facebook and the cops are oblivious until after a crime has been committed. Then it's all "oh so this guy was planning something"
They aren't watching everything because there are better things to spend time and money on. Not enough money or people.
Spoiler warning:
I've had conversations with cops about moviesI mean I downloaded something, the copy was bad but the movie was interesting sort of thing. It's like talking about the weather, sport or whatever.
