    Default PCSX2 running...fail'y?

    ok so im new here, sorry if im missing something you all have gone over hundreds of times, havent messed with emu's since way back when windows 98 was new >.<; - since i got my new computer i figured why not give it a toss to see what i could run.

    techy bits; im running a windows 8.1 6core computer its other stats....well put flattly it can roll witcher 3 at max graphics without batting an eyelash
    so i downloaded the PCSX2 version 1.2.1, ive looked up tips on settings tweeks, driver issues across the board and nothing helps
    the games all seem to run in super slow motion or hyper fast (sometimes frames will be at 15 next second 180) at this point im pretty sure my settings are a complete mess due to to all the tips and tricks ive looked into from forum posts and youtube help clips ive used trying to fiddle with it. /sigh i miss the drag-drop-play days of emu's . any and all tips of how to un-fubar this would be wonderful "@.@"

    - more tech details just in case;
    AMD Radeon R7 200 series
    AMD FX 6300 six core 3.50 ghz
    8gb ram

    currently have PCSX2 version 1.2.1, have tried each version one by one trying to see if it would help after the first time failed, didnt work

    Ill Leave some screenshots of the settings that seems to work alright for most games at least for me here. Hope these help some, I'm running windows 7 by the way.

    Might need to try different EEcyclerate and VU Cycle Stealing for some games. But these settings work good for most games ive tried.

    Leave manual game fixes off and go to System dropdown and make sure automatic game fixes is checked.

    As for graphics settings these really depend on your GPU but these settings should give you and idea on where to start. Some games only run well on OpenGL as the renderer (Try both hrdware and Software mode) (If using Direct3D 9/10/11 use Hardware mode)

    The Configure button in the video settings. Only use the Nvidia Hack if you of course are using an Nvidia GPU if you have AMD don't check it.

    These are the sound settings i use and yes these can affect the performance of your games. Some games on work with Async Mix on if that happens set it to Timestrech. Just mess with these and see what works best for you, But again this is a good starting point.

    1.2.1 eh?

    Someones out of date.

    http://buildbot.orphis.net/pcsx2/

    Grab the topmost one, its the latest nightly build.

    You should have performance boosts and bug fixes.
    THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
    If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

    Oh thanks for that im using 1.2.1 which is the one on their site listed as most up to date. Ill give one of those a try should have a lot of performance gains i hope.

    To OP that guide should still be relevant that i made.

    alrighty i took all the above advice, thank you, got the top one on that list (version 1.3.1) and looked at the settings to the new one most of the settings already matched the screen shots so...score. end result with that is its running alot better, but still is laggy, the game-game parts now sit around 50fps to 60fps, the cutscenes and menus drop out to 30fps oor lower still, sadly since im trying to get this to run to play the .hack games working cutscenes are kinda a biggy >.<;

    small side note; the video plugin settings from the screen shot made it really wonky but thats likely cause im using an AMD rather then an Nvidia card but the sound setting really smoothed it out a great deal, any more tips would be a great help its getting really close to functional

    I updated to 1.3.1 as well after making that guide realizing that they changed the video driver menus a lot, and seems common to me that in some games menus are laggy (Like kingdom Hearts the game plays 60 fps solid but menus run at 25-30 fps for whatever reason.) Ive also heard that the .hack games can be a bit buggy at times. Glad it was at least some amount of help.

    If i think of anything else that will help ill let you know.

    continued update; after some tweeking here and there ive got it flitting between 90%-100% speed in most places, but for some reason in actual combat it slows all the way down to like 35% so thats a thing still. meanwhile i tried another game outside the .hack series, 'Jak II' and it...didnt go well...at all. that one was running at 30% to 50% plus the characters skin textures were missing, either in part or completely.(note daxter with missing eyes...very creepy)

    The jak and daxter games are a right mess on emulators for some reason try some other games you just happened to try a gain that just doesnt work well.

    oki doki, tried 'Dirge of Cerberus' instead, no graphic errors but runs like someone having a stroke in slow motion.
    am i just picking the wrong games? -side bar the emulator seems to crash randomly for some reason, not sure why.

    Have you tried differen EEcyclerate and VU cycle stealing settings and trying different video settings? try turning AF off if its on or turning MSAA int he hacks menu to x2 or x0 and different scaling sized x4 x3 or x2 and see what happens.

    well ive fiddled here and there, not sure what any of it means, forgive me im a old timer most of it is gibberish to me. kinda just trial and error mostly lol. hmm....MSAA, only one i saw for it is under 'HW hacks' which makes the whole thing go completely wonky when i turn it on, runs infinitely better 'so far' with that completely off.

    oki doki, lets try this. since im having no luck in getting it to run other games lets be specific. with my comp stats above and noting i want to run the game full screen 1360x768 for me what is the best settings for the .hack games, mainly the GU's ie; .hack//G.U. Vol. 1 Rebirth and so on. lets assume if the settings for the GUs work the others will to....i know it might not. honestly its the series i miss playing the most and id like to get it running smoothly....could it be i need more then 8 gigs of ram?
