Either they drop marketing down to a much lower tier(honestly wouldn't hurt that much IMO), or they lower budgets for games and staff. Then will we really be better off when devs are being paid less, and it takes longer to create a satisfactory modern day game.

I honestly don't see us ever really going back to the way it was. Hardly any of the games released for PS1 or back would really be deemed satisfactory in a modern day setting. Sure, retro gamers might love it, but a high majority of the market now would prefer large studios to push out high quality graphics, expansive gameplay, and competitive games.

With the huge influx of open-world games also that involves even more dev time. I just can't see a game like the older FF being released as a new game in the modern era and also sell very well.

A game does not need to be eye candy and super simplistic for "casuals" to be modern.

There is no such thing as the right taste. Just because you grew up in an age where you molded around that specific taste doesn't mean everyone should like it. There are plenty of Indie studios producing similar games to that currently. If people like them they'll continue to make them. Everyone likes different styles of art, doesn't mean they are entitled shits because they don't like your specific art style.

I know I personally don't like H-games that feature little girls with dicks. It's not my boat. However, it doesn't mean other people can't like it.

Seems you missed the point, "satisfactory modern game" means making it as "realistic" as possible and make it so a monkey could play it.

If people want "realism" they need to walk outside and join the army, that's as realistic as its going to get.

A game can be made "retro" and still be up by today's standards, I get enough kids wanting only the most "realistic" shooting/murdering/carjacking experience in my life.
