    Default jnes not saving properly?

I'm using jnes version 1.1. Simply put after playing an hour or so of Faria a world of mystery and danger I took a break for a few hours and came back to find that my save file had not been updated despite saving the game at an inn before stopping. Thank goodness I kept a savestate near where I was in terms of progress or I would've lost a bit of work there. Is there maybe a more reliable NES emulator out there that doesn't have this kind of issue?

    EDIT
I have a thought as to what maybe caused this though i'm not sure. I did close out the emulator at the time via the red X in the upper right about 30sec after letting it save(to let and HD activity from it finish). I wonder if the emulator doesn't finalize saves without actually hitting "close" from the menu maybe?

I think you may have just forgotten to save since Jnes has been reliable for me but some other popular options are FCE Ultra and and nestopia.

EDIT: lastest version of FCE Ultra is called FCEUX.

That maybe the case. Some emus write battery save to ram and when you close the rom they copy the contents from ram to the save file on HDD.

Nah I remember saving quite clearly sadly, so that isn't the case. I honestly haven't bothered with regular Nintendo emulation a whole lot. For now i'm going to keep uses jnes, but if the problem crops up again, i'll look into those other ones you mentioned.

I really can't suggest Nestopia hard enough.

It is by far the best NES emulator I have ever used, its lightweight and fixes games that alot of other emus have trouble with like Kickmaster.

Its simple and has great customization, I believe you can use your jnes save in it, not sure though.

I"ll have a look at that in a couple of hours(other things take priority at the moment). One of the things thats been nagging at me is garbage lines showing up while playing Faria in Jnes, its something that was vaguely discussed in a much older topic of mine. Maybe switching emulators will get rid of said garbage lines.

Okay i've taken the the time to install and configure Nestopia, the garbage lines still appear to be present, I suspect they may just be part of the original game, though I do not own the game or a NES so I cannot prove things either way.

i rarely post here but your topic grabbed my attention. From my own personal use, Jnes, while usually being a decent emulator has a savestate bug that was never resolved. Its usually caused by using the save and reload save state very quickly (like while trying to beat a really hard platforming section) Save states can either reset to a much older state(not sure how this is even possible but has happened multiple times with multiple games) or be completely unusable (emulator says not found) I switched to the unofficial Nestopia (undead edition i think) and stopped having this issue.

I haven't had any further problems as of yet, I plan to keep using Jnes unless it acts up again. Nestopia provides too many options for my liking, though I can figure out what most of them do . If anyone has any info regarding the "garbage lines" ,and if its possible to get rid of them, in this game i'd appreciate it. They're mildly annoying but certainly something I can live with. If needed I can supply a screenshot of what I am talking about.

    Care to share a screenshot?

Il try to test the game and see if it has the same results.

Its something that is VERY hard to get an accurate screenshot of, as you have to be in motion in-game to see it. It seems to only occur going down(side to side or even up do not seem to produce it) and can be seen just about anywhere(towns any forest, water even). The actual garbage lines i can see are more then you can see in this screenshot, I simply couldn't get a good one honestly. I can re-produce this on Jnes or Nestopia with ease, other emulators haven't been tried.

OK well I just tried it in Nestopia and I see no garbage , are you talking about the glitchiness on the outer edge of the screen when in motion?

thats a natural occurrence with NES games.

Also Faria has a weird ass method for saving the game, having to hold reset then turn the machine off

I thought that's the same for all NES games?

Yeah when moving a few lines are discolored making them look corrupted. Too bad that its normal for NES games, hadn't realized. I already dislike the limited color palette the NES has, too bad it has to have weird ass discoloration at the edges of the screen as well. It just shows again, how much of an improvement the SNES was. No funky ass colors on there and certainly no discolored edges of the screen .

Nope, that was just the safe method for not losing your save data, I'm pretty sure that was in the manual, not sure though.
