Nah I don’t see it. Too much effort when a big new game with a forced firmware update would suffice, and even if you were correct they’d discontinue the 2DS as well and just release a new barebones revision ala the DSi. They wouldn’t bother bumping up the specs at all. I suspect it comes down to the 3DS showing its age and Nintendo simply not having the resources to produce a brand new console yet so this is just a stopgap. Most people don’t use flash carts and even then nobody who wants to pirate is going to buy the thing until it’s hacked anyway.

Indeed. I mean, they even said that the New 3DS is upgraded. I heard that the system itself is faster as well, downloads will be some-what faster, loading screens will be faster, and so much more. I think it's some-what of a good idea...But, I guess we'll see how it does in Japan come October.
