Default Metal Gear Solid is really frustrating

I have checked every corner of the internet, and found nothing.

So my issue is, basically, MGS is really slow, the audio will stutter, and, oddly enough, if i close the emulation window, you can hear the audio afterwards and have to go into task manager to fix it. Annoying when troubleshooting.

As for computer specs, well, I can run games both from an iso (which im doing with mgs), which i did with ff7, and also off of a disc, which I've done with ff8. please help, ive been wanting to play this for years.

Well, if you're able to run those other games with no issue, then I'm going to assume it's an emulator issue. However, I'll need to know what graphics card your PC has, version of ePSXe (I'm assuming you're using it due to the audio issue), and what video plugin you've been using on ePSXe. I can't really suggest the right video plugin if I don't know what would be right for your PC. If you have all of them -- you could try each one of them out.

As for the audio issue: You can press ESC on your keyboard; this brings the emulator to a pause. After that -- just go to the file tab and press 'exit'.

As LordMajora said, there's info you should post about your system and emulator config to receive a more precise help.

Anyway, keep the PSX DataCenter link bookmarked, it contains info on how to set your ePSXe emulator to run hundred of games. I'm sure it will be of help:

UPDATE: Tried all the psxdatacenter stuff. It didn't work.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core, 2.2 GHz
Nvidia GeForce 6100 (onboard i think)
2 GB (no idea what type)
    Windows 7 Home Premium

    epsxe 1.9
    Pete's GPU 2.9
    Peops DSound 1.9
-no cdrom plugin yet- (about FF8, I've reinstalled epsxe since then but used the same plugins back then. It doesn't matter considering I'm using an iso tho)
i got this from freeroms, using the installer
as for compatibility, psxdatacenter said epsxe, so idk

gobby: giving it a try. I'll assume it needs a generous loading time on the real console.

    PSX WORKS.
with a bit of troubleshooting, the lag should be nonexistent.
how do memory cards work, tho?

you can use your memory card file from ePSXe and vice versa.
pSX makes its own memory card files, its pretty straight forward.

    psX totally worked!

but a question: when I launch psX, it acts like I've never used it before (language select, settings on default)

I have no idea why its doing that for you, mine saves my configuration, cant asked the developer since he totally scrapped it, oh another nice emulator you should try,

    http://www.libretro.com/

Libretro / Retroarch , its a multi system frontend/emulator, its easy to figure out but make sure to set the PSX core bios off in order for the games to run, if you need the correct PSX bios just say so and il up them for ya.

    Mantis is actually pretty easy imo, as long as you (possible spoiler);
    Spoiler warning:
remember to change your controller to "slot 2", otherwise he's next to impossible.

Also this is really one of those games where you should avoid combat as much as possible, especially before you've beaten some bosses & gotten the health boosts that come with them, and more competent weapons than the pistols. Make sure you disable cameras when possible, try and study enemy movement patterns (both much easier on Easy, with the radar being available) and for the most part be patient.
"I think that the problem with this video is it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre. Although when viewed on its own merits, it does have a deeper groove. However what it has in groove, it lacks in originality. One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and other bands that bear the mantle of so called "Alternative Rock". One is even reminded of Lorie Anderson when she wore curlers. Hehehmhm! This video speaks less to the heart and more to the sphincter. In closing, I think Korn would do well to learn more from -"

Yeah Mantis is very very hard without the above trick, I done this myself without that and that battle does become almost impossible but with the trick he is rather easy, you can look up a boss guide via gamefaqs.com to help you, the game itself is rather easy though in most places unless you don't know what you are doing.

Once you know what you are doing though Mantis is a fun part of the game especially with saves from other games from Konami on your memcard and you follow the on screen prompts like placing the controller on a flat surface ect... (that is if you have a controller with rumble drivers).

The GC version might be a better option though if you can emulate the GC at a good speed without lag.

The GC version is almost the exact same game with boosted graphics based on MGS2 there are other minor differences though like the controls are on par with MGS2 so extra moves that got introduced in MGS2 are now in MGS asides from rather minor differences the game is the same, some of the FMV was re-done for some of the background info that just goes on forever as it does in the original just with new visuals.

Overall it's just a better quality version although not directed by the same genius it might as well be as it keeps to the original script and directions of the original version so it's not like it's a new MGS game directed by a totally different guy or anything or even add anything that would spoil the game.
