Lol. I'll probably be on kinda late, and toasted for L4D, but I plan on playing.
I've written a few, but they're so damn inconvenient, and it seems most places won't even take them anymore. I mean really, why not just use a debit card? Hella easier to track your purchases, and it's coming out of the same place.
I know people liked to write checks when they were a little short in the bank, since it would take a few days to clear and if you were just waiting on a paycheck or something you could slide by, but it seems most places have put the kibosh on that since they electronically register the check when you write it to see if your trying to pull one on them.
Not to mention, I fucking hate it when I'm behind someone in line who's paying by check. You wait, and wait, and wait, and they take forever to fill it out, then they have to show their ID, then the clerk has to punch it in, etc etc. Good lord I wanna strangle them.

I use them instead of bank transfers for bills and such but it's more habit than anything.
