A quick google search on Nintendo will tell you or anyone they have been around since basically the beginning of the last century. It amazes he how the simplicity of Google eludes 95% of the denizens on this site.
Anyway, I'm no Ninty supporter by any means (even though I cut my teeth on them growing up), but these "doom and gloom" articles are getting useless, and it's even more worthless debating whether they've failed or not.
The Wii U has totally underperformed, and the game that was supposed to bolster sales (Mario 3D World) didn't do a damn thing. Ninty tried to pull the same tactic Sony did with the PS3 - they went into the next generation with a really big hard-on and basically assumed everyone would buy the system due to previous success. It didn't happen, and now Ninty is basically screwed since they have shit hardware and no third support compared to the the PS4 and XBone.
Now, with that said, Ninty will still survive - they have the 3DS and DS sales that are still selling through the roof. It isn't the end of them, and it isn't the end of their console business. The Wii U is definitely not a blip on any hard core gamer's radar right now, and probably won't ever be, but the company isn't going to die. Especially now that Iwata is up for review and most likely to be fired with new management and a new business sense.
Ninty is full of old hard headed bastards, don't even try to dispute this claim.
