Because I'm not a programmer and this is going to sound incredibly ignorant, but lets say you design a program and spend hundreds of hours coding and checking it and you wanted to make money from it, why you would release to be open source so that everybody could use and see your code? Wouldn't it benefit the creator to keep it closed source and make money from it?

I'm not hating on the open source community but I never got a good answer on this.

God damn, the Dojo is one of the most shittiest parts about Killer Instinct. I have to perform 2 combos with multiple manuals.

I literally have to go like this:

    Opener
    Auto
    Linker
    Manual
    Ender.

That's just the first one and I'm still sucking at this.

You got a point but here is whats wrong about closed source,

once the author grows tired of it that's it, no more updates, no more bug fixes, no running on newer / different Operating Systems.

Soul Calibur I'm good at, not anymore though. If I got some time to learn the controls again I'd be good.

I use linux along with windows, took some getting used to but its a great operating system with numerous free open source programs that are just as great as any windows alternative.

Linux does have have to pay closed source programs as well but I dont know anyone who uses them.

Open source is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Also, privacy. Linux respects privacy
About the "leet uber skillz" You should try using linux, it is not THAT hard to use. It is actually a very good OS.
    You can download it here--->http://www.linuxmint.com/
I suppose it is down to personal taste. If you like Mac, good for you. If you like Windows, that is great. If you like a Linux OS, why not.
Personally, I dual boot Linux Mint and Windows 7 because neither Rome Total War nor Age of Empires run on Linux.

Yeah but on the other hand if you're paid to maintain a program you're a lot more likely to maintain it and keep creating bugs and fixes for it.

Also, if the community at large has no interest in one particular piece of software then what if open source software gets no further updates, no bug fixes and multiple OS compatability?

At least the code is still open for whoever to pick up the torch and continue with it.
