Hell I bought a 3DS three years into the console's lifespan, needed to wait that much for it to accumulate enough games to warrant the purchase.

It was my first launch where I could actually get something with my own money on day of release. No regrets on the hardware, but the games sure have sucked so far.

Both next gens have a tiny game lineup at present. Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III are two titles I'm looking forward to myself, but if memory serves, they'll both be released for both systems anyway. So yeah, hold off until you think "I want me a PS4/XBone for [insert game here]!"

Yeah, but he clearly likes retro RPGs, so if anything he should just get a psp or DS. There's plenty of older stuff on those, not to mention rehashed classics like Lunar, etc

YEPPPPPPPPPP. Also Wii games (Muramasa)! And I always take the PS3 version when I can so this really limits the amount of games I will buy for it. Still I would own the system just for Ys MoC so yeah.

Yeah I love it when I browse "recommend good Vita games" threads on the net and 90% of them are stuff I've played on other systems or could potentially play on other systems.
