Are these games MMOs like the Universe games? If so, can they be run on an emulator, and how much do I lose out on from not having online. (I figure it wouldn't work with an emulator. Please tell me if I'm wrong.)

I think psp emulation supports ad hoc mode that is like a link up mode (Lan) (I have heard of but not tested a mod that can be used with games that support ad hoc to connect that over a network aka online so player do not need to be in he same room and works with the emulators aswell)
but not online mode that would be a connect to online server mode

As I have not played this one I don't know what the game supports

Phantasy Star Portable 2 has online infrastructure mode. I just hopped online and saw 3 games created. It lets you join groups of 4 in quests or something like that. I haven't ever really played it much but it works. I am playing online right now with a stranger.

About running online... I am using a real PSP and a digital version of the game. I am unsure about emulation of the PSP and online.

I know ppsspp has some online ability. As long as I can get to the quests and items, I'm good. Thanks for the help!
Out of curiosity, do you know how I would go about running a Phantasy Star Zero rom on a 3ds (not an emulator), and if that would have internet capability?

I know this one yes and yes and yes

Get yourself a flash kit preferably a good one like the Supercard DSTWO, though I admit I have not played that one, still messing on with PSO on the xbox truth be known so yet to play PS0 [zero] for the DS but wifi and online works just fine via that flash kit

Flash kits for the 3DS must always be updated before the 3DS is updated (if it's your first kit ask the store if they can flash the kit to it's newest firmware before buying, but if you have an original or lite DS you can do that yourself anyway)

I also use a real PSP and have little to no interest in PSP emulation, but part to do with the fact my laptop is not good for that sort of thing, PSX emulation is about the max I can do

Phantasy Star Zero plays perfectly online! but you need friends to play with you cause it's almost impossible to find ppl in matchmaking. If you can play it right now in this very second cause Nintendo is killing the online services for Wii and DS games

ppsspp multiplayer emulation as i last visited ppsspp forum was not even in very early stage and not many things works there

phantasy star online is online only in lobby and questes you can play quests in groups of 4 ppls
i dont know how about

x link kai supports ad hoc same as psp i played only with psp in phantasy star online and monster hunter

i never tried it on ppsspp
