Been trying to force my way through the beginning of A Feast for Crows. Ugh. I'm almost to the point at which I'd like to give the series up and move on to something else, but I feel like I've come too far to quit now.
Downloading Dodonpachi Resurrection for my tablet.
Why do I do this to myself?![]()
I won't get past the first stage.
Sort of like how I can't get past the first few chapters of this book.![]()
If you didn't like the last couple hundred pages of A Storm of Swords, then you have no reason to continue. At all. You'll see next to nothing of the characters you do like in AFFFC; it's almost entirely building of future conflicts and development (and redevelopment) of characters you don't like.
The breakdown is basically Jaime, Cersei, Brienne, Jaime, Cersei Brienne, New POV, Jaime Cersei, Brienne, etc.
To those who like (or have come to like) Martin's style, namely historic realism over dramatic narrative, it's worth reading. To those who want more traditional prose. Move along. There is literally nothing to see here. And there won't be, no matter how long you stick it out.
I've never watched the series. I try to avoid it and images of it. I'd like to not have any semi decent characters ruined by weird casting choices and such.
I'm no good at these games, but every so often I pick one up to try it. Then promptly remember why I don't play them 30 seconds later~
I actually watched the series before reading the novels.
I regret both.![]()
Historic realism I can handle, but I'd like to get farther than the first chapter without the usual penis jokes.
I generally enjoy the books once I've forced myself into the middle of them. The going is always slow throughout the beginning, whilst Martin is busy building up the new characters that he's grooming to replace the ones he killed just after they started to get interesting.
Probably would have read a bit more but the sounds of a keyboard clicking in the same room drove me to ragequit and stick some Touhou metal in my ears.
You must really love my posts then.
Ditto. I've considered dropping each book until about half way through, when the build-up finally has payout (ie. important characters start dropping like flies). Book 4 is the only one I was fully invested in all the way through, because after some of the shit he pulled in the latter half of book 3. . . there's no going back.I generally enjoy the books once I've forced myself into the middle of them. Still have to read Dance With Dragons, but I'll be stalled on Wheel of Time Book 247 for the rest of my life.
I picked up the paperback of Dance with Dragons (which I frequently refer to as Dances with Dragons by mistake) the other day, though I knew full well I'd only read the prologue of Feast. I keep bringing it to work with me hoping to get started during down time, but it's too painful to force myself through at work.
The first new character seems interesting enough, the second not so much, the third chapter seems to belong to Cersei, sooo. I'll put some more effort into it tomorrow, now that I've played Dragon's Crown out of my system for a while.
