My cat would beg to differ. Before I went to Japan, taking care of / playing with him was something that my mother, younger brother and I all did in pretty much equal measure. And obviously when I was living in Japan, I neither fed him nor played with him once. But when I got back? Within a day he was following me around the house, curling up on my lap, sleeping in my bed every night, and basically shunning my mother and brother. You can be friends with a cat. You just can't buy their friendship as easily as you can a dog's. ^_~

The cat missed you, the same thing happens with dogs.

When I was younger (just after leaving home) my parent's animals (cats/dogs) would want to spend more time with me than them whenever I was staying over.

Something that does everything I tell it to do without question isn't my friend. It's my slave.

Not slaves really.
That's what dogs are, the pack mentality is their life.
If you take them for walks/runs they are very happy (so being an owner means you have to know what your dogs like doing, and how often) but a lot of the time they just want to be with you...no strings attached.

My cat was like that before I left too, though. And it's been nearly two months now, and it's still all Elly all the time. He's just always played favourites with me for some reason. :'D

Probably because you're more fun than the other humans I've always liked animals and I'm just a big kid (still).
