You can cut a lot off the time taken to beat Emerald Weapon by rigging one of your characters to do all lucky sevens at the start. Go and fight a really easy random battle, cast Mini on one of your characters, attack another character for one damage at a time until the last two digits of their HP are 77, and then run away and use Hi-Potions / Potions to set it to 7777. I don't think it's quite enough to kill Emerald on its own, but you can follow it with Ultima / 4x Cut with Ultima Weapon a few times, and it'll probably be over. It was how I did it the last time I played too, as I couldn't be bothered doing chocobos for Knights of the Round.
