Pretty much.
Garbage city. Gatsby was also awful. Reallllly hated that book. The problem is there is no classic American literature so they take sub-par stuff and call it classic because it's the best there is to offer. I also dislike anything where the author was clearly paid by the word. I'm looking at you Melville and James Fenimore Cooper. LOOKING STRAIGHT AT YOU.
I have enjoyed some Dumas and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I wouldn't call them favourites, but it was bearable. I actually have a really nice Count of Monte Cristo set lying around somewhere. Unsure what edition, I'd have to find it.
Well, you already know what I recommend.
Martin is decent as well though.
