It'll probably be full retail. And yeah, Microsoft seems pretty content with hiding Rare away in a secret vault somewhere.

Yeah, RARE is like their $75 Million dirty little secret

They paid all that money to steal them away from Ninty, just to lock them in the closet and have them make Kinect games. Good move MS.

To be fair, the founders of the company left a couple years after the acquisition. I don't know exactly how much of Rare's success can be attributed to them, but I'm going to assume a lot.

Then again, if there was ever a Jet Force Gemini sequel, I would consider buying whatever console it was on. Hear that, Rare?! GET ON IT

Yeah, once the Stamper brothers left, it became pretty clear that the company lost it's direction. Not long after that all the seasoned RARE employees were leaving for other companies, and to this day I would bet that there's almost no one from the original team left. Besides, games like PD Zero and Kameo were largely bad because they were games that had started development on earlier systems (GC, then Xbox, then finally 360). I wonder if Nintendo still owns some of the rights to some of those titles, which could be why we won't see any sequels anytime soon. A brand new Conker could be a strong asset (since it was vulgar, and ripped on classic movies), but I feel that has been swept under the rug as well.

I think that's a safe assumption given their current track record.

My understanding (and Wiki agrees with me) is that Nintendo maintained all of the rights to the characters they created (Star Fox, Donkey Kong and all the DK characters, etc), and Rare maintained the rights to the characters that they developed (Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, Conker, JFG, Perfect Dark, and probably a few from the NES days such as Solar Jetman and Battletoads).

Hey Spiders, just saw on Destructoid that Killer Instinct is free to play.... you have to buy each character except for the one character the game comes with. What a rip

Yeah, it's a shame, because mechanically it actually looks really good. Welcome to the modern microtransaction-verse I suppose.

    $5.99 a character, 12 characters, over $70....

Of course I don't know any of that, but it wouldn't shock me in the least

There's always the possibility that the characters will just be behind a hex wall. Of course finding out would require me to buy an Xbone, that possibility is looking rather bleak at this point.

Don't try to hack the Xbone - the Kinect will see and hear you doing it and report you promptly to the proper authorities

    I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I expect the individual character prices would be something like $60 if you buy all of the characters, putting it on par with a retail release. And with the way companies have been going nowadays, they may even have a "Season pass" type thing. Pay $60 now and get all release characters, as well as any that are released later.

But tbh, the console itself is enough of a turn-off that I wouldn't bother even if I was into fighting games.

Yeah, I was just joking anyway - they'd be nuts if they made it that expensive. The real kick in the nuts about this game though is that it's by Double Helix - They're responsible for wonderful titles like GI Joe Rise of Cobra the game, Battleship, and Green Lantern.

    Wonderful track record

It's my understanding that the game is getting a full release, akin to a retail release for the normal going price of the games nowadays as well as the FtP "give us your money" shenanigans. And yet, I still have no compulsion to shell out for an X-Box One.
