If the PS4 had some of those DRM throttles as well, I would have considered them both a failure and seriously consider buying a gaming PC.

I consider BC a major bonus....
There will be some that have it and a lot that won't, similar to this console cycle. The impression that I got was that it was up to the developer if they wanted to go that route or not, and seeing as EA (who was the biggest culprit for online passes) has already stated that they intend to do away with that business model, something tells me we won't see too many of them in the near future.

I agree that BC is a huge bonus, and I would have loved to have seen it on the PS4, but we all knew that it wasn't going to be there. As long as there is a way to get some of the classics via the online store (which it sounds like they're going to be expanding, so awesome), and they aren't going to be hampering the PS3 in any way any time soon (we'll still have to see on that one), then I'm okay with this. I think the only reason the price point is set at $399 is because there is no BC -- if there was, we would be looking at another $650 Sony console launch, and I don't think anyone wants to put up with that shit again.

I'm hoping not, but given that this is EA I suspect that ditching the Online Pass system probably just means they've worked out some other way to pull the same shit. Possibly by some sort of console-ized Origin system (we did have console Steam, it's not that hard to imagine...). Sooner or later, some idiot is going to piss in the pool and I simply hope that everyone doesn't hop on the bandwagon. Sadly, even first party titles were part of this (Heavy Rain had server authentication, all late first/second party Sony titles had passes). This potentially bothers me because we're somewhat trusting Sony to keep a non-DRM stance while they've shown a desire ( on some level) to throw chains all over the game and attempt to keep you from playing something you paid for.

On that note, in the future I think it's not impossible to see a BC revision of the PS4 in a few years once the tech gets smaller and cheaper. But for now, I suspect that the PS3 is being kept as a sort of "entry level" system in the same manner that the PS2 was for a super long time there. Which works great for me because JRPGs and niche titles come out of the woodwork once the big AAA titles move ahead a generation. They don't have to compete too hard with a big name, but there's a huge install base ready to pick up your quirky weird game. Some interesting shit can happen there. And sell pretty well too. And for at least a while they'll still run out the last few titles that they had in development (which wind up being among the best, typically. The PS2 got all kinds of awesome at the end and the PS1 (once you ignore the atrocious shovelware and downgraded ports) had some nice surprises at the end of its life)).

Honestly I'm just happy I don't have to play McManly Sargent Sargent Master Sargent Shooter Person Extreme Duty III on a system that's seen me naked eating cheerios and masturbating to furry porn, then crying into my dakimura, lamenting my pitiful existence the whole while. And silently judging me with its single cold dead eye. Mocking me.

Or watching me experiment to some male underwear photos swiped from a Sears Christmas Catalog whilst utilizing my dragon dildo.

Because, really, you gotta compartmentalize that shit.

There are things better left unsaid, this was one of them. But luckily, thanks to the next generation of console, no need to not see/hear things as the electric eye is always watching!

Well it's like this, see, if the console is always on and the eye is always watching, someone is going to see something weird sooner or later by virtue of me forgetting my "allow friends to pop in and watch me" option was left on.

Like when I eat a bowl of my special ice cream made from my own semen whilst I wear the wife's lingerie.

And all the while Justin Bieber blares in the background.

And dear god, you don't want to see what happens when I read things.

I ever tell anyone how I got this avatar?

    Funny story.

Well I think that story will have to wait for another day. I think it's about time to turn in for the night/wee morning hours. Good evening gents and/or gent-ettes.

So, PS4 appears to be region free.

So, I think it's stupid to stick to one brand just because you like them but it looks like I'll be getting another Sony console this generation. I probably won't get it until it's been out a year though.

That sounds like my view on the matter. I couldn't care less about XBone's lineup, with the exception of Dragon Age, and Sony at least didn't piss me off quite as much at its reveal. Add to that that I do not want the tea tray machine touted by Nintendo, and I think I'll eventually get a PS4 based on game lineup. When it's not punitively expensive, of course.

(Seriously, $400,- does NOT equal €400,- damnit!)

Well Sony learned from their last E3 conference where they said $599 for their console.

Also, I do remember how everyone shat on the ps3 when it initially came out so maybe MS can turn it around:

Agreed, fuck that noise. I'm already half PC gamer anyway (I only play console exclusives on consoles), and this would have been the final straw to push me away from console gaming. Sure PC has awful DRM but as DL says... I can always download a crack if my real version wants to give me bullshit (I was thiiiiiiiis close with Sins of a Solar Empire). I'll be getting a PS4 now at some point.
