Not sure if I want to finish this new Tomb Raider. I mean the graphics are pretty but other than that it's just a generic third person shooter. Ugh.

I was actually quite hyped for it pre-release. They even showed you could go hunting and stuff. WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A BIG FAT LIE. There's no cooking or hunger system in the game as I expected, nor do you need to hunt to survive or shit like that. Killing animals only gives you "generic loot points" which you spend to upgrade your weapons. Deer intestines make shotguns better! LOGIC.
The more I play it the more disappointed I am with it, unfortunately.
Typical over-hyping and lying about a product. Nothing to see here.
And honestly everything I heard after the release confirmed my initial stance. I mean, the paid for reviews are only averaging out at 86 or so, so you know it's garbage.![]()
It's not utter garbage, just depressingly generic and dumbed-down. Tomb Raider was supposed to be about tricky jumps and puzzles, and yet in this one the puzzles are pretty much lowest common denominator material.
Over hyping? Yes. Lying about a product? Ehh... I wouldn't go that far.
I got the impression that hunting used to be a core game mechanic to survive, but they took out the "hunger" system because it wasn't actually fun. Hunting perks can be found through a couple of the upgrade paths, there are always different things to hunt in each area (deer, chickens, birds, boar, etc), and lots of plants that you can pick that don't give you anything other than EXP.
Everything about the game is pretty basic. The storyline is what drives everything forward, and all the other mechanics serve a pretty simple purpose. I have a feeling that if/when we see a sequel, there won't be any wild animals around anywhere and there will be a heavier emphasis on the exploration/tomb raiding.
It was definitely overhyped, but I think we got exactly what the previews showed us -- a relaunch of a franchise that followed in the footsteps of another successful series from this current generation (you know, that other game with the treasure hunter).![]()
New games bro, new games. *insert oldfag rant here*
Yeah I do like a lot of new games, but difficulty is for the most part very weak these days. Old games were punishing as ****. I think there is a happy medium, and it's from after the NES era up until around 2005 for the majority of releases.
Yeah, everything is being rebooted.
Well if Uncharted is like TR I'm not missing out on much.![]()
