Yeah I've easily put around 100 hours into Terraria already. I'm really addicted to it. Let me know when you get back into it and I'll hook you up with some of my extra equipment. Darksiders seemed alright from what I played of it. Like you said it's seems like just a mash-up of other games. I kinda got a Soul Reaver/Zelda/GoW vibe from it. I've watched a buddy play the second one though and it looks to be much, much better than the first one.
What really needs to happen is an HD remake of the original Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain!![]()
I never played much of the Onimusha series except a little of the first one a long time ago. Seemed like a pretty cool game though. I always intended to go back and play them. I just have entirely too many games on my backlog to add any more at this time though.![]()
Yeah, we all have a nasty backlog, I'm sure of thatIf you do go back and play them, which I HIGHLY recommend you do, stay away from 4. It's pretty shitty. 1-3 are really good though.
The original Blood Omen was awesome.... that's one of the games that made me lust for the PS back in the day. Sad to say I've never actually beaten it, but it needs a redux, pronto.
There are a few jokes that will probably be lost on people. I think I got about 90% of them, but there were a few where I was sitting here thinking, "hmm, that sounds like something I should have gotten, but it's not clicking for me."When you just need some time between "serious" games, it's great.
I think people were surprised at how good it was. It definitely wasn't amazing, and its influences were many, including Zelda, God of War, and Portal to name only a few (I've never played Onimusha), and it's a pretty good game considering what it's actually working with. There are plenty of cons -- the protagonist is an emo bitch, it doesn't do anything unique, it's not overly challenging, the combat can get repetitive, and the story is mediocre at best. But absolutely none of them are game breakers, they just slowly add up to a "good" title, but never a great one.
There was, however, a lot to like about it as well. While the combat could get repetitive and they never really broke ground on any new gameplay, each new dungeon adds a new layer to the game and contains a different hook that changes up the gameplay and puzzle solving enough to be interesting so that the game doesn't completely drag out as being the same puzzles over and over. Also, I felt the boss battles were very well done, similar to Zelda bosses -- they were never about outright attacking, which some games are like, but were more about solving the little puzzle and finding the tactic that defeats them. There's one boss I'm thinking of in particular towards the end of the game, but since you're just starting I won't ruin it. Also, aesthetically the game looked great (although never amazing), and performing some of the combos kind of made you feel like a badass at times.
In my books, it's a solid 7/10. It's not great, but I think it definitely appeals to a lot of people because it's a simple, straight-forward game they can tackle and get a nice combination of button-mashing combat and simplistic puzzle solving. I thoroughly enjoyed it (it was also my first), but the Zelda-esque gameplay is something that I enjoy in many games, so my opinion might be a little biased. I keep meaning to pick up the sequel -- maybe I should add it to my massive list of games to play.
From what I've played so far, I'd give it about a 7 as well. Which isn't bad or anything, but I've just gotten overly critical with games in the last few years, as I'm sure any of us that have been gaming for 25+ years can agree with. It does some things right, and it does a fair amount wrong, but you're right... it isn't broken by any means, it just isn't "new" or "innovative" in any way.
So are any Vita owners here going to get Soul Sacrifice? Anyone played the demo? I checked it out, and it seems ok, but I wouldn't exactly call it a system seller. To me it's kind of wonky, but I'll admit I haven't played all the way through the demo either.
I should buy a Vita.
They're cute and easy games, but they started to frustrate me. Sly was bad for the "beat this minigame to progress!" trope, which I didn't enjoy, and the humour/style of the game was a bit too "kiddish" for me. I saw my buddy's dad playing Sly 4 a couple months ago, though, and I still might pick that one up, 'cause it looked pretty nifty.
They're cool games, but I don't really understand the fan devotion to 'em.
I think I got the platinum for that in about 3 days.
[ edit ] 2 days 18 hours. Fuck I need to get out more.
