Its a terrible idea not to release a demo version for that exact reason. You won't have an issue with your machine, but others on the line between last year and this will definitely be unsure.
Console games on the other hand seem to have loads of demos, but its all the same hardware!

I'm in the same boat as you Gare - my laptop will be turning 2 years old in July, and it's pretty powerful (for a laptop especially), but it's more finicky than an actual rig. Speaking from experience, I was able to run Dishonored with all the graphical settings maxed and in 1920x1080 without any hitches. The game was clearly made for consoles then ported to PC. Bioshock on the other hand, I had some issues with. Tomb Raider is another one I tried, and I was able to run it at full tilt except the TressFX for her hair. As soon as i turned it on, the game was over So yeah, I know you have a more powerful system than me so you'll probably be fine. I've been "testing" the PC games and then always end up buying them on PS3

Assassins creed 3 for free on xbox 360

All you need to do is make a Chinese email account and go to Xbox.com to download the game.
When you sign into your normal profile the game still works.
    I just queued it myself.

    Steps:
    1. Go to live.com and make a Chinese email. Use another email for security code
    2. Go to xbox.com and register a new Chinese Gamertag using that email.

Google the game name along with canirun. You will need to install a java app that will check your specs and tell you if you meet minimum/recommended specs. Otherwise, google the game title with system requirements and do the legwork yourself.

This, and the fact that mine won't run original xbox games without, makes me wish I had an HDD for the 360.

I dunno about the "more powerful system" part. I only run TR on Medium (Normal) with some things on High, in 1080p, and I get an average of 40-45-ish PFS (in less crowded areas, 60 FPS) with occasional dips in more intensive areas. If I set everything to High I get a noticeable drop in the framerate. Of course, "being able to run it" means a different thing for each user. For me, 50-60 FPS would be optimal, while others praise the heavens if they get 35. So yeah.

Also, most people with the same video card that I have (GTX650, non-Ti version) often say things like "oh I can run this and this maxed out", but none of that matters when no one mentions the resolution they're playing on. For all I know he could be playing on an old CRT at 1024x768. And I'll be honest, I like my stuff in 1920x1080. 1600x900 is the absolute lowest I can tolerate, but even that bothers my eyes. This isn't really being a graphics whore IMO, but rather my eyes being sensitive to image quality on a game being too blurry.

Lesson learned: next time I won't be a penny pincher when shopping for a GPU.

That site sucks - it tells me I can run all sorts of things at high settings. It doesn't take into account that a Laptop can't handle things quite the same, nor does it say I need to lower the resolution. Like Gare, I like to keep things in 1080p.

Yep, the GPU is truly where it's at. No matter the Ram and everything else, if you don't have a really great GPU you're screwed, and I can't upgrade mine since it's in a laptop. When I was checking reviews of the card I have, everyone was saying it can run Crysis 2 at max settings and Witcher 2 on Ultra (except Uber sampling) and all this shit. Turns out these jokers are all playing in 720p.

Nvidia 3 Gig GT555M. It's decent, and if I hooked up my pc to a TV and just output the signal in 720 (since 720 looks way sexier on a tv that monitor) it would probably be amazing, but that's not how I roll.

So much this. I'd usually rather turn AA off and decrease other settings than drop below native res on an LCD monitor.

Yeah, it's ridiculous how much time I can spend fiddling with graphical settings in a game.

I only compromised with The Witcher 2. I can just barely maintain a 35-40-ish framerate on 1600x900 and High. My GPU basically shits itself on that game in 1080p.

And now they announced that The Witcher 3 will be open world. OH GOD.

I hear you brother - I fiddle and fiddle and barely even enjoy the game I'm playing. And yes, the Witcher seriously shit all over me in 1080, it just wasn't happening, but like you I compromised because that game was awesome.

However, when the Witcher 3 comes out, I will buy a new PC - that game will probably set a nice benchmark for a long long time, and since it's a ways off I have time to start saving money
