I finally got my soldering iron from my father in law, but I have nothing to solder. I also have no solder. I think the solder that I did buy (back when I modded my xbox controller) was resin core, though.

Lol shut up. I was trying to remember if resin was for violins or soldering. I knew it was resin or rosin.

If it's a used iron, you'll want to put a new tip on it. An old tip doesn't conduct heat as well, and can turn a simple job into a headache (and possibly cause a few burnt fingers).

I use rosin or flux-core solder, lead-free plumbing stuff for most things (guitar cables, tinning speaker wires, etc) For circuit boards or other small, fine work, I get the fine, silver-based electronics solder in the little plastic tube. I forget the brand name.

Oh, and there's rosin for violin bows, also. Just a different kind.

Basically I file it to a sharp point and tin it with solder and rotate the tip on a soldering sponge to evenly coat it in solder. Because of this, I can make the tip much much sharper and reuse it for years to come. This doesn't work with my desolderng tip because it is hollow and becomes too wide to use after many uses.

I bought the thing a couple of years ago and only used it for a few days, so the tip is still nice and new. Has some melted plastic on the shaft, but otherwise, new. And actually, my solder was flux-core.

Why don't you download shows?

His pc is turned off 50% of the time, and gets bsod 49% of the time.

Actually, 15% of the time the PC gets BSOD'd, and it's usually on from after 11 AM to about midnight.
The other reason, is because my Internet connection is extremely slow (takes forever to watch videos on the Internet, and three days for a 900MB file to be downloaded) and apparently, it seems to be getting slower

...

Although how it takes 7 MB files 5 hours to download and 9 MB files 3 hours to download, I have no idea.
