You're trying to upload them here?
Just use imgur and remote upload them (upload from where the link is, not your pc) there anonymously...I'm pretty sure it'll work.
Unless there's a limit to filesize just try it anyway

I should have said I never got an animated gif to work as an avatar for me here when I was a regular member.
Staff and retro have different permissions, but I haven't tried doing it myself since I got promoted.
It seems Zal has got animation...but he's retro.

Well, if it's small you could try adding it to your signature.
And use [right] code tags (or the align right button in advanced) to put it in the right side.
If you wanna do that then you'll probably have to use an image host site.
Like that imgur site I mentioned.
