This could be bad for the PS4, and even a PS3 update. Blocking used games is just dumb. I know they work hard and stuff, but there has to be a better way.

It won't really affect me as I won't buy games in any condition other than new. I picture myself having to pay more sometimes because I am partial to part-exchanging games I already own for newer titles.
On the plus side, coaster sales are bound to increase. And frisbees. Everyone loves frisbees.
This is a death sentence for mediocre games, as most buyers wouldn't want to keep a game forever unless it's nigh perfect. If devs can't toss out high profit shovelware they won't sign on with the PS4. If PS4 has no games, it's dead
The only way this works is if initial sale prices are dirt cheap. Without the big ticket $60+ initial sales, developers will look to do everything low budget. So expect even more shovelware...
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here
If it happens I wouldn't be surprised if there are more games available on PSN, instead of retail discs.
And it wouldn't surprise me if M$ does the same thing
Even though it's a niche, I think it's about time somebody made a console for hardcore gamers.
I realise many people that fall into that category actually play games on PC, but the fact remains there's a huge number of older gamers...consoles may not have the same gfx quality as pc but there are plenty of adults that just want a simple gaming device.
I can only speak for myself, but I won't buy a console that can't play used games. Not as a matter of conscious protest, mind. Just because... well... if it doesn't play used games, I'd wind up buying so few that it wouldn't be worth the initial investment of the console.
here we go with this again, i bought maybe 4 (5 if you count christmas recently) games in the last 1-2 years because of how far i've moved away from boring single player console game. those companies pretty much lost me when single players games lost me to pc mmorpg games but that still doesn't mean i'm about to put up with THIS. hope all those companies are ready to lose a good sized portion of they're consumer base as it could be likely to happen.
The only games I purchase are used, last gen games or games that I will NOT be opening. I have no PS3 as of yet, and it looks like I will not be buying a PS4 either. Great job Sony, I used to be such a fan-boy.
It's not going to happen.
There were similar rumours floating around even before the PS3 launched. Honestly, they may have patented an idea, but that doesn't mean it's practical or even possible to implement without all sorts of legal headaches. It's all very well for a publisher to insist you're only buying a license but they all seem to have forgotten that in most countries the end user has the right to transfer that license.
I can understand wanting to reduce used game sales but surely the answer is to go after the likes of Gamestop rather than small time sellers. There's a huge difference between someone getting rid of a couple of old games and a chain store where 50% of the floor space is dedicated to used titles at £5 less than a new copy.

Well, Im not getting a PS4 then. No way will I support this, I bought 4 ps2 games used that arent manufactured anymore, the only way to get them is used. Ive written about a "lost generation" of games, and this could very well happen if this is done. Hopefully game companies will go to the Wii U instead, hopefully Nintenod wont be as demanding as they have in the past.
I think the PS2 is the best console of all time, and I was wanting to buy a PSP, then a PS3 when it would be $100. But Ive noticed al lthe Bullet Hell shooters are on the 360, maybe I should just buy that, I dont care for blu ray. 90% of the games I wanted are also on the 360 and the new design seems to be stable. So I guess Ill buy a 360 and get a controller thats modded and play like a ps controller.![]()

STOP THE MADDENESS, STOP BUYING SPORTS GAMES!
Oh man, if they keep going like this, it's gonna be '83 all over again.
This won't happen on the ps3 in the link itself it said it will take 2-3 years to take affect, ps4 will come out 2014 at latest, also it would be impossible with ps3 unless they recalled every game and did a new code system for each game, now about ps4 its possible sure but doesn't mean they'll do it just because sony makes a patent doesn't mean they'll do it what about the patent they did months back for ads during games, wheres that nowdays? also it would just kill sony, in a time when they NEED money, no company is that stupid
