    Default V-Rally 2 In-Game Control Problems ePSXe

    So I'm having problems running this game. Emulation wise, its completely fine. Control wise, not so much.
    During all the menus, the controls are fine. up/down/left/right, X and Triangle, and the start button all work. (I assume the others too, but they don't have any function during the menus.) However, when I go into any mode, the only buttons that work are: left, which turns into a "look back" button; right, which works as intended; and start, which also works as intended. This is with both a keyboard and a controller via MotionInJoy. I have also tried using my original CD copy, and downloading a copy, with both giving the exact same problem.

    It's just this game, every other game I've tried and played work fine. Any help would be appreciated!

    I have no idea why this happens, but please post what version of epsxe you are using and what plugins, it will help others answer you.

    It's copy protection

    there is a patch Here

    The patch is for the PAL version, but as far as I know the problem is in the PAL version not even sure there is a NTSC version of the game

    I was going to check redump.org but they are either down or having very slow server issues

    Thanks for the quick response, but i'm having an issue still. I think it patched correctly as it comes up with the cracked screen at the beginning, but it still doesn't work. At first the patcher was saying "VR2CRACK.EXE has stopped working" but re-naming the .bin file to a shorter name fixed it and said it patched. Any ideas?

    Test it out and then tell me if it doesn't work. run the patched CD image in ePSXe

    If not I can always make a ppf instead, but I can't tell you if it has patched or not without having your computer infront of me can I

    having spaces in file names or very long file names can cause issues with dos apps " on either side of a file name with spaces can help but it is quicker just to rename the files used first.

    Sorry, I should have made it clearer. The patcher "worked" as it now comes up with the cracked launcher menu, but I still get the control issue. Just to check, I'm meant to have 8 .bin files, all named identical except for (track 1-8) correct? With a .cue, .sbi, and the patcher files?

    ah you have an sbi

    just rename the sbi to the name of the main exec for the game, it should be sles something or other (I'm sure you just keep that in the main folder of ePSXe 1.7.0, can't say I tested that myself though)

    I will test the game out myself later though for you at the moment I have other stuff downloading, p.s. where did you get the image you are currently using so I can test the exact same copy you have

    redump is down so I didn't know if the game had an sbi file or not

    I got the files from the direct download from here, which is a .RAR which contains 7 .ape files and a .7z of the 8th, bin.ecm file. I used the PakkIso tools to extract it all, which created 8 .bin files, which I assume is right? Anyway, I got the .cue and .sbi files from the .zip that contains a lot of them in a different thread, which are named the same as the .bin files (except for the (track 1-8) in the .bin file names).

    what thread?

    I am downloading the game now... though it will be slowish to download having other stuff downloading at the same time

    EDIT downloading seems not bad... for now anyway...

    You can check the cue sheet with notepad but yeah bin files sounds correct, personly I will be using ecm tools and an APE to wav converter but it doesn't make any difference in the long run

    Let me grab the files so I can see what is going on though then I can tell you how to run it myself instead of half guessing

    EDIT again actually I have the cue's & sbi's archieve, infact I uploaded that here myself a while ago

    Ok so I have the same files as you

    I setup ePSXe to use pete's CD plugin and setup the plugin

    I set mine to use

    Interface: W2K/XP - IOCTL scsi commands
    Drive: K: (I use Daemon tools personly and my drive was K)
    Read Mode: I auto detected that (but it ended up being BE_2 (ATAPI SPEC 2)
    Cashing mode: Async Read (just seemed like the best option)

    Misc: I left everything as it was

    Error Handling: I left as default

    PPF: Not using any

    Subchannel reading

    Use subchannel SBI/M3S info file (recomended)

    File: I chose the sbi file you have

    The game ran perfectly fine after that

    OK, so I don't have any idea what is wrong. I downloaded Pete's CD plugin, Daemon tools, and set it up exactly like you have. Just to clarify, you were able to control the car when in a race, yes? Because that's the trouble I'm having, I can't control the car. Even though it was reading the .SBI file, which is meant to fix that isn't it?

    Yep fixed it for me just fine above is my setup

    That setup will also work with your original disc aswell or you can try enable sub channel reading from disc, but not all drives have subchanel support

    You may also need to use a none patched version as you said the patch did not help I never did try that patch though

    So after a bit of tinkering and fussing about, and making sure that even the locations were exactly the same as yours, it finally works! Now, I don't know if it was the fact that the original directory was too long, even though other games works fine for it, or whether it was the driver profile in the game clinging on to the copy protection. Or, whether it was because I used an un-patched version. Or something. Thank you so much anyway!!
