My niece is giving me the ultra-portable she got a while ago...it has 8GB ram
Her boyfriend gave her something with a bigger screen and an optical drive.

I don't think I'll bother about getting a new phone now (I was considering it for work related stuff).

Base frequency is 2.7GHz, but auto-OC runs it at 3.2GHz. When I find the time, I am going to OC it even higher since I went with an all-in-one water cooler (doesn't need refilling).
Also 8Gigs 1600 DDR3 and 128 SATA III SSD from OCZ (Vertex 4).

Best goddam computer I've ever used.
Would get the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, 3.4GHz quad.

Only £87 and way more powerful than I'll ever need.

I had one of those ordered but the dick head on ebay never sent it, so I ordered the x6 from TigerDirect for only 10USD more.

Well obviously when it's as obsolete as a Pentium 2 I'll have to re-think things.

My laptop's overheating constantly now, fan spins up really really loud when I watch any kind of video online.

Not sure what I could do to try and fix it. It's one of those giant fan cooling pad things. I'm too lazy to take it apart and reseat the heatsinks and apply new paste.

An LGA775 quad wouldn't go amiss.

It would save me from having to buy a new motherboard and RAM.

I don't have any interest in PC games, I just want a quadcore for some reason.

Turn the bottom of the laptop into a colander

Still probably wouldn't stop it overheating. Fuckin' Acer rubbish.

My laptop's fan has dried up. Every time it spins at any speed, it grinds and squeals. A lapdesk never cooled it enough for the cpu fan to slow either. I have repasted a couple of times and my last option is to buy some sewing oil to drop in the fan. Apparently it is a much thinner oil than any other available so it should help. I just have to be careful not to make a mess.

I just use whatever, but I seriously need to throw some crap out.
This pos celeron I'm on atm is enough to browse and download shit.
And if need to burn discs/recode stuff or whatever I use an old athlon rig I've got here.

The HP dm-1 I've got now is fine for office stuff and watching some vids when I'm not at home.

Yeah this piece of crap is about 4 years old now. Nice specs and stuff, just poorly put together by Acer.

I was looking at getting a netbook, I just want something that doesn't get hot, but don't want to spend a lot either. Definitely don't want to spend the £300 on a new, decent spec laptop. I thought if I upgraded the desktop, used that for all the time I'm at my desk, and just use the laptop ONLY when I'm in bed. It should last a few hours at night/morning.
