Just to do the roll-call.
Balthier: Okay, so I kinda liked him, if only because he's a cynic.
Vaan: "I want to be a sky pirate!" Do you have any other motivations to be with the team? "Motivations?" Moving on.
Penelo: "I'm following Vaan. This is literally everything my character has going for it." Also pretty much everything you say throughout the game. You got SHAFTED, dear.
Ashe: "I'm a jilted princess trying to restore my kingd- wait, I'm trying to defeat Archaede- Okay, sorry, back to my own kingdom."
Basch: "I'm here to protect my princess and provide plot insulation as to why Vaan stays around. Then I wrap up that plot point in about as much time as it takes to make a sandwich. Shame, really."
Fran: "I'm the obligatory titties, now with built-in bunny ears."
The story itself was fairly deep, but if I hate the people I'm supposed to be carting around the world, something's going to have to give eventually. Plus, they really have no driving reason to stick together. At all. Vaan is quite possibly the most uninteresting protagonist of a Final Fantasy game ever, including Final Fantasy I.
