For example, the word "Demon" is derived from an Ancient Greek word that, if memory serves, essentially denoted a GOOD spirit. Does that make the meaning of 'demon' as it is used today less true? Of course not.
The 'true' meaning you espouse is a meaning that was in active use a few thousand years ago. Its meaning changed over the centuries. None of them are any less true as a result.
