Didn't read what you linked to...but yeah, people have to be careful taking pics of military stuff (and even government buildings).
Pleading ignorance of existing law is no excuse, and in some cases like this you may only need to get official permission (in writing or whatever) from relevant authorities.
Westerners are probably the worst when it comes to going to other countries and breaking laws simply because they're ignorant

True to an extent. On the other side of the story, I also feel that the gross over-protectivism (apparently that's a word) that sometimes comes about is equally stupid.
These two twits were, in fairness, taking photos of a full-on army base, so it's definitely thick. I still feel the overbureaucracy and extreme jumpiness at anything that can be considered 'espionage' is also immensely stupid.
