Default FF8 through ESR with FreeMcBoot

Hey everyone, IDK how touchy this forum is on the FreeMcBoot subject but I have a question. If I am out of line, please do not be rude. All you have to do is let me know.

On to the question, I have been burning PS2 games, patching them with ES patcher, and playing my thumbs off. I want to play Final Fantasy 8 but can't for the life of me, figure out how to burn the games. I mean, PS1 games come in Bin/Cue format and I want to convert them to ISO format. I have a program called BintoIso and convert the Bin files but the ESR patcher won't patch them because there is no UDP descriptor or something.

Maybe I can burn the bin and cue files on one disc? I wouold love to get the whole game in 1 single ISO file! Everywhere I go to download the game, they only have 3 of 4 discs. I tried to burn copies of my FF8 CD's but they are to badly scratched to finish. I always get an error at like 95% on all disks.

    Thanks

You cant run PSX games via ESR method, only PS2 DVD images will work.
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

So I would have to convert them to ISO format?

you Can Not run PSX games via ESR on a PS2, Only PS2 games that are DVD Format.

you can play FF8 just fine in a emulator.

Here are the links for FF8:

    http://www.emuparadise.me/Sony_Plays...c4of4%5D/36907

If you want to play the burned discs on your PlayStation 2, you may only use the disc swap method. Locate an old credit card or gift card and cut it down to these specs:

Find a youtube video detailing the "swap trick"

And like he said, ESR is only for PS2 games that are originally on DVD. PS1 games are all CD and will never work with ESR.

As for your comments on ISO's. There is no need for you to use ISO's as opposed to BIN's. Any good image burner will support both, so do not go out of your way to convert them to ISO.

This will never happen and no one will ever write a utility to support this.

I already have FreeMcBoot installed. I have been playing burnt PS2 games through ESR for the past month. I used the game swap trick with 007 AUF.

    But this

answers my question. So, I guess I will have to go and buy it again. Like I have said, the games are scratched to hell! I figured you could just convert the bin to iso, then patch them.

EDIT: just seen the ISO links you provided. Thanks!

    But this
I understand you had done it initially to hack the system, but it is how you can play the burned PS1 games as well.

You may convert them to ISO if you want, but it will not help you. I was simply explaining that it is not necessary. You do not need to buy them again (FF8 is pretty cheap though), you just have to burn them unpatched on a CD and use the swap trick every time. My FF8 is not scratched, but they are all burnt from the reading lasers. The links are all 4 discs so if you download them and do not patch them, you can burn them confidently with IMGburn.

    Good luck

Oh, wow. Now I get it! I thought, burned PS1 games didn't work period. Like they just weren't compatible with ESR at all. Therefor couldn't be played. Now I see I can burn PS1 ISO's without the ESR patch and use the swap trick. Thanks for the links again!

That must be a pain to swap every time you want to play though huh?

One question though. What did you mean about the swap trick? Am I using 007 AUF? Then swapping with the modified AUF? Can you explain how I play these FF8 ISO's with the swap trick?

    EDIT:
If you are suggesting using the original games and swapping during game play, I don't have them any more. Got rid of them last week. That's why I decided to DL them.

What you do is use ANY official PS1 game and once it loads to the PS logo, then swap with your burned disc.

ECM is used to compress PS1 games a lot more than 7zip or WinRAR ever can so that you can downoload them much quicker and take up less server space. This is how to handle them:

Sorry if I am being a nuisance but this is crazy! The process is ridiculous! I did manage to figure out how to unecm the file, but now there are 5 files: SUB, IMG, CCD, CUE, ISO. I tried to burn the ISO with ImgBurn but it says I should have chosen the CUE file and this is not the one. WTF?

So, what should I do, as far as game go? I am assuming I can just download the files right from EP and play off of my USB from the emulator menu on my PS2??

Wouldn't happen to have a link to the PSX bios either, would you?

You are awesome! That was super simple! I have FF8 up and running now! I used the 4 Links jazzmurazz provided for the FF8 games. I used this bios -> http://www.emuparadise.me/biosfiles/PSX_Bios_41a.zip the only problem is that there is no sound and its in black and white.

I was running the game off of my USB. I'll burn the bin/cue and see if it makes a difference.

EDIT: Turns out you cannot play CD's on the PSx emulator. I figured since it was a PS2 it was a different story. All I had to do was enable sound and select the proper video setting in the emu config menu. Works great now! I owe a big thanks to all the great members here who helped me!
