There is a still VHS machine in our house but it's never used anymore, I'm so glad Dvds replaced them.

I wish I had transferred more things to DVD ten years ago before selling a lot of the tapes I had. The same ones are probably still on eBay. but they will have degraded even if they weren't played.

They're still good for transferring anime to DVD since some rare stuff hasn't been re-released in digital format. Luckily most anime VHS doesn't have copy protection; I think they wanted people to share their copies so it would get more popular outside of Japan.

Don't you have private tutors? Someone who can come to your house and stuff and teach you alone. That's how I learned, and because of it, I wasn't held back by classmates or other stuff and could go at my own pace. A school here offers to teach some basic grammar and maybe a hundred kanji in half a year. In half a year I learned several hundred and went over most of the necessary grammar with my teacher.

Hardly a weapon when I can just skip over it and not read it~

Although, I must mention that even though it's possible to learn on your own (look at Elin), not everyone is like that, and while there are some really good teachers, there are some really bad ones as well. So it's sort of a gamble.

You're absolutely right. I'll be honest and admit that I know nothing about the conditions in South Africa, but yeah, investing in a language course is sort of a luxury.
