I used to have dogs. Not anymore though. Smelly, loud etc...so I didn't want them in the house which meant they were living outside the whole time and honestly I wasn't giving the last dog any attention so I gave her to someone else because it was unfair to the dog.

...Are we still talking about housecats, here, or?
(I thought you might be meaning Swiss girls and/or the various teenage EP members....meh...)

....And you gave a dog away due to LACK of giving him/her attention...?? Yep...that was the nail in the coffin for me....yikes..
Dog POISONING, to boot?? Damn...you must live in a hellish redneck backwater...wow...Does Leatherface ever stop by? Ever see a NON-white person?

    Old house is rather vague
An old house here could be anywhere from 50-200 or so years old.
In Europe an old house would be much older than that, of course.
But I've seen houses in Ireland that are reasonably old and made child safe.
No, the moving is more because the house is too big and Dad passed away about a year ago.
The old house I'm in is about... 100-200 years old. It was part of the suburb for well-to-do people like doctors and teachers. Gorgeous house. Just... old and as far as I know, all the houses in my neighborhood could do with some repairs. Not extensive, but there are some problems stemming from age..

They know how to open the latched bucket Mom stores the dry cat food in.

Mine do. They think bugs are fun toys to catch. And they each once caught a bat.

Some breeds don't smell much at all...and some clean themselves as well (pretty much like a cat).
Only one of mine is inside most of the time , the other just comes in to watch a little tv and have dinner.
The inside dog doesn't make much of a racket, and the outside one gets dropped off at my folks if I go somewhere I can't take her.

Cats have always made me sneeze anyway.
I like them, and it's not a full on allergy...but there's also the business of them being a bit evil
There's no way I could have more than one cat, it'd be madness

My house is nice and on a lot of land. Also no annoying city ordinances and what have you. But yeah the downside is the county sheriff doesn't really do anything. Not that I'd call in the first place under most circumstances. My highschool was all white. Before that I lived in a city though, had native american and african american friends etc...

And yeah I have a feud with one of my neighbours. It's like I'm in Kentucky or something.

Yeah I've always been more of a cat person. Probably because of the evilness.

Gyps - Right on. I have seen my share of time AWAY from urban areas...I'm fine pretty much anywhere, really..

I like it out here but I wouldn't want to be any further from a decent sized city.
